testing the world takes the wonder out of everything. Knowing how this works gives us a chance to greater wonder and fascination with everything. We don’t have to live in fear of the great unknown. 2/2
I often wonder when I hear religious people say things like, “atheists are attempting to disprove god through science.” What they are getting at? It’s my assumption that they view science through the laboratory. A sterile environment for testing means a sterile world. As if 1/2
@recj50 @MickAtheist I’m also agree. Functional, doesn’t mean working well. I tend to take the functionalist perspective when studying religion. Which means, how and why does it remain active and relevant in today’s world.
@MickAtheist continues to dominate the personal, social, economic, and political lives of everyone it touches. With out regard for those outside of its structure. For now and the foreseeable future it’s going to be part of life. 2/2
@MickAtheist That function provides support for people who can’t get it anywhere else. This often leads to a sense of entitlement and authority. Which of course is problematic at best. Though I agree that it functions are outdated it’s still working for many people.
@MickAtheist In conclusion. Religion does terrible and great things. It leaves us is a quagmire of cognitive dissonance. To call it completely wrong is perhaps a little to strong. Can the results they are looking be found elsewhere, yes. Unfortunately, the highly religious world around us 1/2
@MickAtheist Religion is multifaceted. For many people it is unnecessary. For others it is quintessential part of their personal construction. I agree with you, but it is also important understand that for many people there is no other option:
@Right_Smarts @Renevelation Well... that article was serious waste of time. Lots of wild claims and false assertions mixed with some valid points. This is classic apologetic ignorance at its best/worst.
Well... You bunch of atheists in the light of all the current crisis on women’s of civil rights and body autonomy. Goldfish has decided to provide you with a your favorite flavor. #Atheism#Heathen#AtheistsEatingBabies
@MickAtheist One time a Christian children’s charity came to the door. I told them I support their working with kids, but I cannot in good conscience support a Christian organization. They got pissed and kept saying we’ll pray for you. I asked politely them not pray for me. They stormed off.
Super heroes are representations of divinities in an accessible and human story. They are by all means the new pantheon. They fulfill our desire to be great and powerful and yet expose our flaws at the same time. Heroes just like gods are a projection of our feelings and desires.
