The University of Otago Geology Department is facing a proposed cut of 1/3 of their staff. As a past student, this is very upsetting to hear. If you have a few seconds to sign this that would be greatly appreciated.

Large stripe flatworm
Many of our flatworms glow brightly under UV, in order to observed this correctly, you do need to have a good uv torch.
Thabks to Russell Ingram-Seal for holding the uv torch.

Just spied this. Speight’s refill bottles featuring a moa logo 100ish years back by Powely and Keast. Does this make it the original moa beer? https://t.co/Np5mTJ5u1i
At some point you get to know your neighbour. That goes for the feathery manu that visit your garden. Get ready for this year’s New Zealand Garden Bird Survey by learning the names of the different birds that come to your garden.

After a long time @Otagomuseum (like, longer than this giant trematode from inside a sunfish), I'm moving on.
Thanks to supporters of museum natural history collections, projects, adventures and care.
Catch you up @docgovtnz Coastal Otago Office as Senior Ranger, Community.
What if we introduced the equivalent of parental leave for people who want to look after their elders in their final months so they can stay at home as long as possible? Short time of paid carer's leave, followed by unpaid, with return to same job later. Better for all involved?
Sunfish ☀️🐡 dissection day has finally come!
Hardly anything is known about elusive Hoodwinker sunfish (Mola tecta) and we aim to change that with morphology and metabarcoding (if we can find some funding 😅 )
Hear @BurnsByProxy talk about it- 11 min in: https://t.co/sfWiBJJVdW

The mustelid stink juice is fortified with isopropyl and the sent round the NZ to use as a deterrent or attractant in mustelid pest control.
Better living everyone!
…Except you mustelids.
I’m not sure if we are all the way clear of the fear, but having a respect for bugs and minibeasties is the our main aim.
But anyhoo, if you’re on a similar bug journey with your kiddos, I hope some of these help.
And if you have others suggestions let me know.
Anyone else have kiddos with fears of bugs?
Somewhere between 1yo and 3yo the idea that bugs were terrifying, gross and dangerous crept into our daughters mind. Which was weird for us because we generally have a pretty bug positive/calm-farm attitude to bugs household.
We graduated to walking around the house and picking up dead insects on windowsills and the alcove. We made a little pinned collection during iso recently. She took it to daycare last week for mat time with her friends, enjoyed telling them about how soft huhu beetle fuzz is.
