I, personally, look forward to the 220-team World Cup presented by Blackrock, hosted exclusively in the United States every six months and powered by Polymarket.
Good piece here by @Millar_Colin. I was at the England-Panama match, and afterwards several England fans were singing "Ten German Bombers" ... immediate after singing "football's coming home with Thomas Tuchel" (who, last I checked, is German).

I'd like the phone book for Hokkaido, Japan, please.
Okay, here you go. The phone book for Hokkaido, Japan.
Thank you. May I please use your phone?
Is it a local call?
Y-Y-Yes…
You better believe it...
1. IN the 1400s, a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb, hence we have 'The rule of thumb'.
2. Many years ago, in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was ruled 'Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden', and thus the word GOLF entered the English language.
3 Each King in a deck of playing cards, represents a great 'King' in history;
Spades - King David
Hearts, Charlemagne
Clubs, Alexander the Great
Diamonds, Julius Caesar
4. In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bedframes by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress support tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on, hence, the phrase 'Goodnight, sleep tight'.
5. It was accepted practice in Babylon 4000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son in law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer, and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the 'Honey month', which we know of today as the 'Honeymoon'.
6. Since 1966, English fans have said they are going to win the cup at the start of every football competition, hence the phrase, 'Deluded twats'.
True story: when I first moved to NYC in the mid-90's, I did extra work on SNL for parts of two seasons. In the fall of 1996 Phil Hartman was the host, and I was playing an army recruit in a sketch (don't even remember if the sketch made the show).
During rehearsal downtime on Thurs or Fri, he started chatting with all the extras. Nicest, sweetest, most generous guy. Someone asked about his characters on the Simpsons, and whether he had a favorite line. And without a pause he said, "Oh yeah. It was Troy McClure when he marries Selma, and Bart and Lisa are in his pool, and he stops and says..." ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
NOEL AND LIAM GALLAGHER ONCE GOT INTO A FIST FIGHT OVER THEIR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG:
“The thing is with Liam, you just get into trouble all the time. When you're 27, that's brilliant. But there comes a time when you can't be arsed anymore. I had a fight - a fight! - with him about the best Christmas song,
We were in a pub and someone goes, 'best Christmas single of all time? “Merry Xmas Everybody”, Slade'. He goes 'What do you fuckng mean? What about John Lennon “War Is Over”?' Who sings that at parties? That escalated into a fist fight in the car park. My kids were like 'Why's daddy got a black eye?' 'He was fighting with uncle Liam.' 'What about?' 'Christmas songs'. I won't be that guy any more.”
This is hilarious (and accurate): "The problem with South Florida is the variety of drivers. It’s like combining the driving style of The Villages with the driving style of Bogota or Caracas. It’s just awful."
I live near Red Bull Arena. I'm a USMNT/USWNT diehard (have attended 7 World Cups and 3 Women's World Cups). Yet I refused as a matter of principle to pay $100 to see the pre-Olympics USWNT friendly against Mexico. (I watched on TV.) @MLSist
Does the USMNT have an attendance issue?
The answer isn’t simple, writes @MLSist.
