Buzzworks Hitchin

We are a volunteer association that looks to help people in and around Hitchin to discover and enjoy the world of bees and to learn the craft of beekeeping!

Bees are fundamental to our survival. This is why the UN designated 20/05 as World Bee Day, to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and what we can do to help.

Honey bees are social insects that live in colonies. Honey bee colonies consist of a single queen, hundreds of male drones and 20,000 to 80,000 female worker bees. Each honey bee colony also contains developing eggs, larvae and pupae. That’s one big family!

[Buzzworks Hitchin @Buzzworks_AH]

If you add up all the journeys made by the many bees needed to produce a jar of honey, it totals over 40,000 miles. That’s nearly twice round the world 🌍
