Are you ‘bursting’ with curiosity about how different neural codes might contribute to memory functions? Then look at our new @Neuron paper where we analyse rate codes and burst codes and how their prevalence is correlated with area function. #tweetprint https://t.co/q6DQ4ZPRlC
The Lateral Prefrontal Cortex appears de novo in primates. Its role: a mental workspace where sensory signals and memories are combined and multiplexed creating complex spatio-temporal patterns that guide intelligent behaviours. https://t.co/OoYSOyTxRg
~75M years ago some nocturnal mammals developed the vision superpower. When dinosaurs went extinct, they invaded the daylight niche; the super power became UberPower shaping the behaviour and brain of our ancient primate cousins, including the Hippocampus. https://t.co/oGpnPngzXm
@JulioMTNeuro Thanks @JulioMTNeuro, your insights and enthusiasm made sure everything came together! And it's also thanks to @rob_gulli and the other former and current members of the MT lab!
New study alert! We set out to study visual exploration strategies in marmosets navigating in a 3D environment, and recorded neural responses in the hippocampus. We found a diverse neuronal place code that is mainly driven by view and head direction! A🧵 https://t.co/Ir73agKy0X
Really proud of the amazing work Sarah does for the community, and so happy to see that work recognized! Developing, coordinating and collaborating on innovative projects that have benefitted 1000s of Londoners! Can't wait to see what she does next! @PathwaysLondon@LdnIncMag
Meet Sarah Gastle, 36, director of business development and communications at Pathways Employment Health Centre, and one of our 20 Under 40 Class of 2023 recipients! https://t.co/gkAP1TBQlk #ldnont#519ldn#20under40@PathwaysLondon
9) Our results show that view encoding in virtual environments can be found in both the HPC and LPFC, and appear more abundant in LPFC.
Final: Big thank yous to @JulioMTNeuro@rob_gulli@MohamadAbbass19 @mRoussy23 @neurosurgeryjc, Borna Mahmoudian and Dr.s Doucet and Luna
If it’s your view that the hippocampus is the only brain region with view cells, please look at our paper in @WileyNeuro’s #Hippocampus where we use virtual reality to explore view encoding in macaque hippocampus and lateral prefrontal cortex. #tweetprint https://t.co/qdQgqRHkkF
8) While a moderate proportion of view cells were affected by the visual features, most were not, suggesting we could be observing a gestalt encoding of the environment, and that the affordances of what is being viewed is more important to these cells than the details.
Interested in accurately targeting deep brain structures for chronic or semichronic recordings of neural activity? We describe a method here. Led by fearless Borna Mahmoudian and a fantastic team of collaborators @SchulichMedDent. https://t.co/ZKI3GK6OP3
Our results show that there are different neural codes that take advantage of different properties of neurons to encode short and long term memories.
Big thank you's to @JulioMTNeuro@rob_gulli @mRoussy23 @KartikPradeepan@neurosurgeryjc and Dr.'s Doucet and Luna

Finally, we used SVM decoders to analyse population codes for task periods, and the accuracy for burst rates in HPC was much closer to accuracy for spike rates, whereas burst decoding was poor in the LPFC.
