Today, I oversaw the signing of a landmark Framework for Cooperation between the National Bank of Ethiopia and the IFC to establish our country’s first dedicated Mortgage Refinance Company.

Capitalized at 100 Billion ETB, with the IFC set to contribute a minimum of $200 million, this wholesale institution will resolve long-standing liquidity mismatches in our banking sector and unlock accessible mortgage financing across Ethiopia.

This partnership is a critical step toward realizing our goal of delivering 1.5 million affordable, dignified homes for Ethiopian families while expanding private-sector participation in our financial system. Ethiopia continues to build a modern, resilient, and inclusive economy.

Our discussions centered on key priority areas of mutual interest, focusing on the strengthening of EU-Africa relations. We also addressed pertinent regional issues of concern and explored strategic pathways to further advance and expand economic cooperation.

It is with great pride that I join you today at the opening ceremony of this historic National Dialogue. This grand conference, which will bring together four thousand participants under one roof in the coming weeks, marks a historic opportunity for Ethiopia to obtain the “pen and parchment” with which to write a new chapter of its history by its own hand.

We are at a moment when we can break the cycle in Ethiopia’s political journey. A cycle that begins with inflammatory rhetoric and ends in violent action, and replace it with dialogue and discussion. I extend my sincere gratitude to the commissioners of the National Dialogue Commission for their invaluable contributions toward making this important undertaking possible.

This conference, which is founded on a bottom-up agenda-setting process involving hundreds of thousands of citizens, is a rare and remarkable event with immense significance in Ethiopia’s modern history. Through it, we have the opportunity to transform our challenges into opportunities and establish a lasting culture of peaceful transfers of power.

Today, we are planting good seeds that will benefit future generations, and we are ensuring that our children will enjoy the fruits they bear. As we participate in this dialogue, if we set aside our local interests and deliberate for the sake of Ethiopia, keeping our children and their future in mind, the outcome will be truly fruitful.

Together, let us cultivate hope, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. By resolving our differences through dialogue and reconciliation within our own country, let us safeguard Ethiopia from external interference. I call upon all participants to achieve a historic outcome; one that will benefit Ethiopia, serve as an example for Africa, and bring genuine peace and relief to all Ethiopians.

I am pleased to see the steady progress of the Chano–Chencha Road Project. The 29-kilometer project, comprising the 22-kilometer Chano–Chencha road and the 7-kilometer Ezo–Gircha branch road, is advancing well, with 13.3 kilometers already completed. Once finished, it will improve connectivity, make travel easier, and support local economic development. I look forward to its successful completion.

During the visit, we also reviewed the renovated Dorze Lodge, a community-led tourism destination that has been thriving since 2005. Perched on a cool, mountainous ridge spanning 40,000 square meters, this remarkable site offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lakes Abaya and Chamo, together with the natural wonder known as God’s Bridge.

The continued development of road infrastructure alongside tourism sites like Dorze Lodge will help unlock the region’s immense economic and cultural potential. I invite our citizens, Ethiopians in the diaspora, and travelers from around the world to visit and experience this extraordinary natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

የቻኖ-ጨንጫ መንገድ ፕሮጀክት የደረሰበትን ፈጣን የግንባታ ሂደት ዛሬ ተመልክተናል። የ22 ኪሎ ሜትር የቻኖ-ጨንጫ መንገድ እና የ7 ኪሎ ሜትር የኤዞ-ጊርጫ ቅርንጫፍ መንገድን የያዘው የ29 ኪሎ ሜትር ፕሮጀክት በጥሩ አፈጻጸም ላይ ሲሆን፣ 13.3 ኪሎ ሜትር ስራው ተጠናቋል። የመንገዱ ስራ ሙሉ በሙሉ ሲጠናቀቅ የማኅበረሰቡን ትስስር ይበልጥ ያጠናክራል፣ ንግድ እና ጉዞን ያቀላጥፋል፣ እንዲሁም የአካባቢውን የኢኮኖሚ ልማት ያፋጥናል።

በዚሁ ጉብኝታችን፣ ከ1997 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ በማህበረሰቡ ጠንካራ መሪነት የያዘውና የታደሰውን የዶርዜ ሎጅ የቱሪዝም መዳረሻ ጎብኝተናል። በ40 ሺህ ካሬ ሜትር ቦታ ላይ፣ በቀዝቃዛውና ሰንሰለታማ የተራራ ጋራ ላይ ያረፈው ይህ አስደናቂ ሥፍራ፣ የአባያና ጫሞ ሐይ��ችን እንዲሁም “የእግዜር ድልድይ” ተብሎ የሚጠራውን የተፈጥሮ ድንቅ ዕይታ በአንድ ላይ በግልጽ የሚያሳይ ውብ ገጽታን ይሰጣል።

እንደ ዶርዜ ሎጅ ያሉ መሰል የቱሪስት መዳረሻዎች ጎን ለጎን የሚከናወነው የመንገድ መሠረተ-ልማት መስፋፋት፣ ስፍራው ያለውን እጅግ ከፍተኛ የኢኮኖሚና የባህል አቅም ሙሉ በሙሉ አውጥቶ ለመጠቀም በእጅጉ ያግዛል። በመሆኑም፣ በሃገር ውስጥ እና በውጭ ሃገር የሚኖሩ ኢትዮጵያውያንና የዲያስፖራ አባላት፣ እንዲሁም ከመላው ዓለም የሚመጡ ጎብኚዎች ይህንን አስደናቂ የተፈጥሮ ውበትና የበለጸገ የባህል ሐብት እንዲጎበኙና የታሪኩ ተጋሪ እንዲሆኑ ጥሪዬን አቀርባለሁ።

#Update: UAE-Backed Berbera Port Emerges as Ethiopia’s Lifeline to the Sea Through Somaliland.

Ethiopia is seeking deeper cooperation with the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 and Somaliland to ease the strategic constraints of being landlocked, with officials pointing to UAE-backed Berbera port and corridor investments as central to Addis Ababa’s regional economic ambitions.

Speaking at the UAE-Africa Dialogue in Addis Ababa, Getachew Reda, an adviser to Ethiopia’s prime minister, said Ethiopia must work closely with the Emirates to address its lack of direct sea access through joint infrastructure development.

The UAE has already emerged as a major investor in the Horn of Africa, including in the expansion of Somaliland’s Berbera port, a project seen as critical to Ethiopia’s trade routes, as well as in planned corridor and railway links connecting Somaliland and Ethiopia.

The two-day forum, aimed at strengthening UAE-Africa partnerships, also included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and the UAE’s Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, part of a broader effort to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa.
