Christmas Napoleon turns 8 this year! He was made for a door decorating contest by my 2014 sophomore advisory class and was too awesome to throw away, so I hang him back up every Christmas!
@Google Classroom needs a function where teachers can attach “stickers” on submitted digital assignments to replicate the nice feeling students get when they earn a sticker on their paper assignments. For example: Nice job!, A+, Gold Star, Very Creative!, etc.
@PlayOverwatch@BlizzardCS Your phone policy is harmful for school esports programs and needs reworked. It’s a barrier for students who don’t have phones or are on pre-paid plans. How are they supposed to play? Schools can provide equipment & internet but not a post-paid phone number.
@CaRenaeTX@BlizzardCS I’m not one to argue with strangers on the internet so I’m going to leave it at this. School programs can provide PCs, games, internet, and peripherals. They can’t provide postpaid phone service. Because of that, poor kids can’t play OW at school without sketchy workarounds.
@BlizzardCS, as a school esports coach, I have to call out your policy of requiring a postpaid phone be linked to an account in order to play #Overwatch2 as #classist. The game is free and rated Teen yet many teen students are barred from entry because parents can’t afford to…
Hey @Blizzard_Ent - I have high school esports players who would love to play #Overwatch2 but have prepaid cell phones. Do you have a solution? Or should we drop the OW team members who can’t afford/don’t qualify for post-paid cell?
@CaRenaeTX@BlizzardCS Say what you want, but I’m arguing on behalf of my students and other students in school esports. They joined esports to have fun and be part of a community but some of them are being unfairly excluded.
@CaRenaeTX@BlizzardCS It’s not emotionalism. It’s a fact that many of my poorer students literally cannot play the game because they do not have an acceptable phone number to link to their account. Even those with phones can’t play if they use a prepaid provider like Cricket.
@CaRenaeTX@BlizzardCS Something can be classist without intention to be. If people of a certain socioeconomic standing are barred from entry, then it’s by definition classist.
buy them a phone or because their parents’ choice to use a prepaid phone carrier isn’t acceptable to you. Overwatch has been the premiere esports game in our league but this could definitely change that. I get the importance of 2FA, but there need to be other methods allowed.
Big shoutout to Byng’s IT staff. They have been working so hard to keep us afloat during this time where connectivity is so important. They’ve also been a HUGE help with the PC building project I took on. I very literally couldn’t have done it without them! They’re awesome!
We started building PCs in my Computer Repair class. You would’ve thought it was Christmas - tearing open of packaging, excited exclamations. Most fascinated I’ve ever seen students & most fun, engaging activity I’ve done as a teacher! Thanks, @okcareertech@BMITE1 Lottery Grant!
Here’s an appreciation post for our admin and office staff, who for months have been adapting to an ever-changing situation. I couldn’t do their jobs on a normal year, much less in a pandemic! They’ve been working their tails off but still manage to be positive! True Pirates! 👏
I have to say, I’m so proud of how well my students handled the new mask and safety policies! They were all very patient, understanding, and compliant! I didn’t hear a single complaint all day! #byngpride
I’m psyched about starting school tomorrow! Our yearbook meeting today reminded me just how much I missed my kids! Im also excited to see how the push towards tech impacts education from here out. It may be a bumpy start, but I think it’s going to have big positive outcomes!
