I could be way off on this as I don’t follow all of the technical language, but I believe NNT is proving a point here makes in his famous trilogy. Specifically, that life expectancy for someone who is seventy years old is not the same as it is for a one day old human. If the avg life expectancy is 72 years, that is how long a newborn is expected to live. But someone who has already survived 70 years has a life expectancy that is considerably longer.
