July is #cleftandcraniofacialawarenessmonth - learn more about DCH's Cleft and Craniofacial team! As someone who drives to Medford every few months, I can attest to the trek it is! So glad we have outreach clinics that allow kids to be kids with fewer long trips to the hospital.
I've learned so much about cleft + craniofacial (CCF) diagnoses over the past year which has allowed me to better understand & appreciate just how valuable Hannah's expertise is for this patient population. We're lucky to have her, and lucky to have such an exceptional CCF team!
Love when the insurance rep tells you how "fortunate" you are to have such "generous" insurance when you're calling to confirm that the treatment your MD & dozens of published journals recommend for you is not covered & therefore not financially possible. 😑#healthcarereformnow
Joining @KateBolduan@CNN: We are seeing more breakthrough infections because we are seeing more infections. The unvaccinated are driving #covid19 spread, and it's spilling over to affect the vaccinated. That's not failure of the vaccine--it's failure of people to get vaccinated.
This is breaking my heart. So many people will suffer as a result of misinformation and people refusing to use the most effective tool (vaccine) we have to combat COVID-19. And for those of us with the vaccine, it's not a one-size-fits-all - we have to distance, and mask up.
Discussing surge planning and the potential cancellation of vital heart surgeries for kids in our 🫀 conference this morning made this 3rd #COVID19 wave all the more real. 😢
I found it inspiring - I hope to be like Drs. Carter Mecher & Charity Dean. I also found it immensely troubling to see the roadblocks these brilliant minds faced & the deadly consequences of inaction. My heart is aching for my colleagues in healthcare, this surge is catastrophic.
In my quest to read all things #publichealth, I came across "The Premonition" by Michael Lewis. Highly recommend and could not be more timely as we face the largest surge in the state of Oregon. #readaboutscience
I was skeptical at 1st - reading about science on vacation didn't sound great but this was a page-turner. From a child who creates an accurate pandemic modeling algorithm, to the story of the Mann Gulch Fire as a metaphor for today... this book has it all.
So so happy our fleet is complete! Couldn't think of a more deserving team to get these vehicles, and the benefit they've already had on local children and their families is incredible! Huge thanks to @portlandgeneral electric and the #DriveChangeFund
Potentially unpopular opinion - Let's get some trauma-informed communications folks to Surfside. Quotes from the mayors there are well-meaning but not helpful. Reminder that not everyone believes in God and, referencing the loss of someone's life as "God's plan" can be offensive.
Please don't be that person who goes to an event feeling sick. Even if you don't have COVID, why expose other ppl to illness? I've heard of several ppl who are vaccinated & acting as though it's not a big deal that they're going to a party despite not feeling well... c'mon folks.
