Today Harmony house Parent English classes have started once again. Truly heart-warming to see our Auburn north teachers and parents in this class work so hard. Little ones are kept busy with activities, to help their mothers focus on learning English @AuburnNthPS@C_Mirzai
The Auburn North Family absolutely loved being reunited today at our morning assembly. Students and families were so excited to find out their new class and meet their new teacher. Beaming smiles all around! Bring on an outstanding 2023!
Our teachers hit the group running with their professional learning today. Teachers in their first two years of teaching @AuburnNthPS engaged in PL in the ANPS Instructional Model, complete with video analysis of Auburn North Literacy and Numeracy lessons. Excellent session!
Parents as Partners in Learning is a key initiative on our SIP.
Another great session was held this morning with parents, teachers and students learning and having fun together. Thank you @C_Mirzai@cwallaceteach@RizkKatia@DiBiasiJana @WoodwardMadi1
We had a great start to our term 4 English class last week. 19 parents and grandparents came. A remarkable improvement and confidence could be seen in their speaking, writing and reading skills. Great work team! @C_Mirzai @WoodwardMadi1 @PRashtia
We conclude each session by reviewing all new learning and encouraging students to use this learning throughout the week. We could not feel more proud of these amazing students! @HarmonyatAuburn
Students learnt the sounds /g/ and /o/ before moving onto our reading session. After engaging in choral reading of our decodable reader some students even bravely demonstrated their progress by reading to the class. The social support is amazing! @au_readers @HarmonyatAuburn
We then moved to our phonics lesson. It is vitally important to regularly revise all previously taught sounds as we have new students every week. Listen to the progress made!
The oral language component of today's English Class was all about prepositions, which are so important when learning a language. We used fun manipulatives to help students learn words such as 'above', 'beneath', 'between', 'beside' etc.
Our fifth English Class today was our best attended yet. 21 wonderful parents/grandparents engaged in oral language, phonics and reading activities @HarmonyatAuburn this morning.
We revisited the Ten Principles of Effective Mathematics Instruction and began to explore what constitutes rich tasks in mathematics. This video from Professor @janettebobis assisted staff in understanding why rich tasks are so important and what is meant by productive struggle
We then reviewed our in-between session reading about the four 'Working Mathematically' processes set out in the new mathematics curriculum through a very entertaining and competitive game of @Kahoot! So much fun!
Our 'Developing the Mathematician' TPL series continued today. Session Two began with a check-in on the caterpillar rich task from our first session. Some teachers tried the task with their class. It was wonderful to hear their reflections! Thank you @MissCMao@CharlotteHamm21
We finished our lesson by taking our first class photo! Teachers @C_Mirzai and @WoodwardMadi1 became quite teary at the end of the session as one student explained how much these classes mean to her. Very special @HarmonyatAuburn
Next, we practiced decoding and read our first decodable reader for a second time. Students read individually and received feedback from teachers. We then did a choral read altogether. We even answered comprehension questions. We will read a new book next week! @HarmonyatAuburn
