Kenya’s debt explosion was not merely reckless economics. Where constitutional and statutory requirements were ignored, it raises a much more serious question: whether some borrowing was unlawful.

The Constitution and the Public Finance Management Act do not give government a blank cheque to borrow indefinitely. Public debt must be contracted and managed transparently, responsibly and within the safeguards established by law.

Yet Kenyans were left with an ever-growing mountain of debt and obligations whose consequences we are paying for today.

The result is a brutal fiscal squeeze: more public revenue is swallowed by debt obligations, leaving less money for healthcare, education, infrastructure, jobs and essential services.

You cannot keep borrowing to survive yesterday’s borrowing and call that economic management.

A country cannot borrow its way out of a debt trap. At some point, the borrowing must stop, the books must be opened, and accountability must begin.

I am receiving information from insiders regarding the management of SHA funds by CS Aden Duale.

Sources allege that between KSh 40- 60 million is being embezzled under the guise of “marketing costs”. Genuine suppliers on the other hand are not being paid and are afraid to speak publicly or demand what they are owed because they fear retaliation.

These are serious allegations involving public money and they deserve urgent scrutiny. SHA should disclose its monthly marketing expenditure, the companies and individuals receiving these payments, the contracts involved, and the services delivered.

But PHYSICALLY locked out by a barbed wire fence and kept at bay by heavily armed ferocious military and police officers were thousands of villagers and other Kenyans, who spent the entire day in the sun, hungry—and whom the bandits spoke to via mounted loud speakers across the fence.

I shuddered at the images and symbolism of the majority of a sovereign people living in squalor and treated like slaves by their Nyang’au Bandits.
