The Delta Conveyance Project will modernize the State Water Project and allow water managers to safely capture and transport excess water. If the project were operational this year, 585,000 acre-feet of water could have been captured since October 1 – enough for over 6.3 million people for an entire year.

On this date 69 years ago, Gov. Goodwin J. Knight and DWR Director Harvey O. Banks boarded a 20-car train with the Antelope High School Band bound for Oroville to break ground on the Feather River Project.
The project sparked what we now know as the State Water Project and relocated the Western Pacific main line to make way for the Oroville Dam. To view archival photos and more, check out DWR’s photo library: https://t.co/E8cvg2AY0k
This week, divers are working in the chilly waters of the Sacramento River at Georgiana Slough to begin the process of removing large sections of the Salmonid Migratory Barrier for routine annual maintenance. Also known as a Bio-acoustic Fish Fence (BAFF), the submerged structures create a curtain of bubbles illuminated by modulated lights (LED’s), accompanied by bursts of sound at frequencies that repel young Chinook salmon and discourage them from entering Georgiana Slough and parts of the Delta where their chances of survival decrease.

With Memorial Day Weekend starting, DWR wants to make sure you and your family stay safe while recreating on our waterways! Summer is approaching and snowmelt is resulting in cold and faster water flows. To stay safe, look for a lifeguard or a sign stating that you are in a designated swimming area. Stay safe and have a fun Memorial Day Weekend!

We’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of a major milestone for the @CalNatResources Species Conservation Habitat project! The progress on this project created vital habitat for wildlife and suppressed dust from an exposed lakebed, helping improve air quality for surrounding communities.
When completed, the project will create a network of ponds, berms, nesting and loafing islands, and water delivery systems engineered to sustain fish and bird populations – helping to restore the local ecosystem and protect air quality by reducing dust at a key area of previously exposed lakebed.
Thanks to strong state, federal, tribal and community partnerships, what was once just a vision is becoming a vibrant, living reality.
