Great to see some policy recommendations for a positive focus on sexual and gender diversity with autistic youth and adults by @dewinterjeroen at #INSAR23 including recommendations for education, clinical practice, research and policy https://t.co/DznIfJ15vB
@E_Marocchini@HRadders Thank you! Yours sounds super interesting as well! That double empathy problem in action! I'll try to stop by if I'm still standing by 5:30!
Looking forward to presenting my poster at #INSAR2023 on Thursday in the Family and Stakeholders session at 11:30! Poster will be on research interests of non-binary autistic people and participatory methods: https://t.co/RGV4yP2ABN
@HRadders Hi Holly, I'm going to be presenting a poster at the Family and Stakeholders session on Thursday. Looking to connect with other autistic researchers before to learn some friendly faces :)
@social_parasite I agree. I was going to do it today and get some work done...but then I realised it was a bank holiday so had an extra day of pyjama existence

Discrimination against Learning Disabled people from the caring profession is real. Often this discrimination is subconscious, we must self reflect & heal ourselves if we are to change culture. Thoughts??
Something that I dont think is talked about enough with the autistic experience is just how long trauma can last. Autistic minds have a tendency to replay events over & over the way NT minds dont. It can keep us looped in the moment of trauma indefinitely.
@DanNichollsNo9 I'd say let them wear joggers - their comfort and being able to think about their learning (instead of how uncomfortable they feel) is surely more important. Also exploring clothing options that feel as loose and flexible as joggers but look smarter, e.g. no waistband
@AnAutieAtUni Hey, been reading your tweets for a while and wishing I could help with your struggles at uni. Don't think I can, but just so you know thrre are people sympathetic to what you're going through x
@autistic_tuts I link this with being a natural problem-solver. I will try and solve the 'problem' even years after an event, especially if there is no simple solution. It's a mechanism that's supposed to help us learn from mistakes but taken to an extreme causes rumination
@artistAuDH We're generally not good at selectively attending to sounds, so instead of struggling to attend to everything, sounds like your brain is blocking ALL speech - an efficient if somewhat inconvenient coping strategy! I do this when I'm hyperfocused
