I’m an adventurous little dragon hatched in Cardiff and ready to see the world. Follow me to see which @cuconservation alum I visit next! Made by @Cheshlie.
@NormanFarndon Nah, if I was planning a heist I'd be wearing a tiny balaclava to get in the spirit of things. 😉 Also I'm a tiny conservation dragon: what would I want to steal? Maybe nitrile gloves to give to the NHS... (We're all out anyway!)
Doing a bit of essential planning & housekeeping today, like showing me which areas are environmentally monitored remotely (green) vs manually (orange). (Non-collection areas are red as they're not monitored.) Knowing this will help us understand what's happening in the building.
Mini Marco and I have been practicing some of the housekeeping suggestions we read about yesterday: like covering certain things with dust sheets to protect them during museum hibernation. (No Mini Marcos were hurt during this exercise!)
My internship has been a little extended given recent events! Today I'm reading up on how to housekeep while a building is closed to the public. Did you know museums and historic properties go into hibernation mode sometimes? Like a big hedgehog. Except full of heritage. 🦔💤
Today I'm learning more about how to dye fabrics. Tricky, as it turns out! At least when you need a particular shade...
Which colour do I look my best in, folks?
Today I've been helping Jenny clean some objects before treatment (safety first, always use PPE!) and explored the Archives and Local Studies here on site. So many books!
While the museum remains open I'm helping Jenny with her day-to-day tasks: this morning we're doing the environmental monitoring rounds!
Only some areas have telemetric monitoring so we go around noting temp/RH/light based on either handheld readings or displays like this. 🌡️💦
Apparently I did a pretty good job! Any costume going on this hanger will now be well supported and that'll help the garment last longer. 👕 Can't wait to see what we do tomorrow!
First task of the week: help Jenny and her volunteer make some new costume bags for storing historical garments in! ✂️🧵 Might even get to do some padded hangers... Wish me luck!
I've just arrived in Yorkshire! I'm interning at Clifton Conservation at Clifton Park Museum this week -- it's already full of surprises! I think my host Jenny might be Swedish judging by the desk décor... Mini Marco has already made me feel welcome in the office.
Job alert: you still have until Monday 24th Feb to apply to be the new @NML_Muse Conservation Environmental Officer. Exciting role within an amazing team in a great city - what are you waiting for??

@LJaneHenderson I do! I believe we all need to do as much as possible (both at work and at home) to try and minimise our impact on the planet, otherwise where will we and our collections be in a few generations #ClimateChange#CulturalHeritage
