Because our brains prefer nice, neat integer harmonics, we actually hear the tubular bells "incorrectly". The 4th, 5th, and 6th modes get misinterpreted as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th harmonic and our brain fills in the pattern. We hears a fundamental (1st harmonic) that doesn't exist

Music + Math fact: for most instruments, when you play a note you hear not only the fundamental frequency but all the integer multiples of it (n, 2n, 3n, 4n, 5n, ...) "Most" is not "all" however. Below are the tubular bells and the formula for its harmonics
