Yes, I think fear of the backlash could very well be one of the reasons Charles has hesitated. But that is precisely why I think the Crown needs to act rather than allow Harry and Meghan’s reaction to dictate its decisions.
There also needs to be a distinction between criticism and actively undermining the institution. People are perfectly entitled to criticise the Crown and individual members of the Royal Family. That isn’t what I’m talking about. Harry and Meghan have gone far beyond criticism in repeatedly attacking the institution while still retaining the titles and association that give those attacks additional weight.
At some point, the Crown needs to make a clean institutional separation. Remove the privileges and, in my view, the titles as well, cut off any continuing role or access, and make it absolutely clear that Harry and Meghan are private citizens and that whatever they say, publish or do is theirs alone and does not represent the Royal Family, the Palace or the Crown.
And honestly, I think the absence of meaningful consequences over the years is part of why this has become worse. The Crown cannot keep treating this as a family quarrel and simply hope it burns itself out. Harry clearly isn’t going to stop because everyone ignores him. There has to be a point where actions have consequences.
That’s also why I think the Andrew comparison matters. It isn’t about saying the circumstances are identical; it’s about the principle that when an individual’s conduct creates an institutional risk, the institution has to establish distance and clear boundaries. The Crown should not leave itself in a position years from now where something involving Harry becomes an even bigger problem and people can reasonably ask why the door was left open for so long.
Charles can have compassion for Harry as his son and still act decisively as King. Those roles don’t have to conflict. For me, protecting the institution means accepting that there may be backlash, drawing the line anyway, and making sure there is no ambiguity about where Harry and Meghan stand in relation to the monarchy.
@RichardGrenell What will your children think when they find out all the fraud that’s taken place while on your watch? That you may or may not be involved with…. @CAgovernor@JenSiebelNewsom
My Queen, my heart breaks watching your life's work, your sacrifices, your unwavering loyalty to the crown, our country 🏴🇬🇧 & the commonwealth being reduced to a circus show! I hope @RoyalFamily & @KensingtonRoyal stop the Markles show before it's too late.

When storms are raging around us, finding a quiet place to be still and turn to God is sometimes the best choice we can make. Jesus is fighting for you; all you need to do is be still and trust Him, knowing He is God and will take care of you.

@FBI_Response@dbongino Are they now going to be arresting, prosecuting and sentencing Rosie, Kathy, Ashley, Madonna, Ellen, Jimmy, etc. - serious question! Lord knows they need to be!
@radar_online HA! 🤣😂Sadly they are so tone deaf that they don’t see this as an issue with them alone! Might be a good idea to do some self reflection on your own, without your spouse
