(And a huge thx to @CAL_FIRE's LA Moran Reforestation Center for hosting us last month in Davis)
On June 4, SNC Boardmembers and staff toured project sites across Trinity County to see firsthand how partnerships, early investments, and innovative approaches are advancing healthy forests, resilient watersheds, and community protection. #HealthyForests#WatershedResilience

🚨 ICYMI: We’re ready.
With temperatures climbing across California, conditions are shifting quickly—making preparedness more important than ever. CAL FIRE resources are already in position, trained, and ready to respond the moment they’re needed.
While fire activity increases heading into warmer months, preparedness is already in motion across the state. Prevention, response capability, and public awareness all work together to help protect lives, property, and communities.
@KPX | CBS News Bay Area recently highlighted this work in a segment showcasing how we’re prepared for heightened fire activity and what readiness looks like in real time.

Sharing a huge thx to @sgvHabitat for showing us their inspiring work and for rebuilding the Altadena community, one incredible firewise home at a time.
Truly inspiring to witness another example of Californians coming together to lift each other up while preparing for wildfire.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some push wheelbarrows.
This Wildfire Preparedness Week, channel your inner Claire and Joshua. ✨
Why? Because your home is worth protecting.
Start with Zone Zero, the first five feet around your home, and work your way out. Clear dead plants, dry leaves, and woodpiles. Give fire nothing easy.

The Wildfire Resilience Index is now live. Look up any census tract, county, or congressional district to get a resilience score broken down by eight socio-ecological domains. All data, methods, and code are free and open. https://t.co/zMRqv5YNjd
On April 20, 2026, San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a wind-driven vegetation fire in Yucca Valley. This home survived. Here is how to prepare your property during #WildfirePreparednessWeek.
Zone 0: The first five feet from your home is the most important. Keeping the area closest to buildings, structures, and decks clear will prevent embers from igniting materials that can spread the fire to your home.
Zone 1: This is the area within 30 feet from the structure. Regularly clear dead or dry vegetation and create space between trees. During times of drought when watering is limited, pay special attention to clearing dead or dying material.
Zone 2: Reduce potential fuel within 100 feet of the structure.
Defensible space does not just protect your home. It gives firefighters the space they need to operate when fighting a wildfire.

Check out the difference!
The El Dorado County and Logtown Fire Safe Councils led a hands-on effort, in partnership with CAL FIRE volunteers, the California Conservation Corp and the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians Tribal Fire Department to help a resident create defensible space by clearing brush and removing dead vegetation.
Defensible space is one of the most effective tools to protect your property from wildfire. It provides firefighters the room they need to safely do their job—and gives your home a real fighting chance.
During Wildfire Preparedness Week, we encourage everyone to take a walk around their property and ask: Am I ready?
CAL FIRE appreciates the leadership of the Fire Safe Councils and the strong community commitment demonstrated through this “neighbors helping neighbors” effort.

“It was big enough to get really worried about it.”
In 2025, the Bonanza Fire burned right up to Jim Ferguson’s property. He was told by fire crews that the roads cut in around his home and trimmed landscape lent to not only his home’s survival, but the ability for them to fight the fire.
Jim’s property shows what’s possible over time, but keep in mind that defensible space isn’t about perfection or doing it all at once. It’s about starting where you are and building from there.
It’s a work in progress, and every step you take makes a real difference.
