いま夜のメキシコシティで、すごく素敵なことがあった😭
メキシコ戦が終わり、街のタコス屋で夕食を…と入ったら、スペイン語のメニューしかなく、まったく読めない。
さらに運の悪いことに、スマホの電波が悪く、翻訳アプリも使えない。
困り果てていると、ふと、窓の外にいた少年たちと目が合った。
中学生くらいの男の子2��。思わず手を振ると、彼らは店の中に入ってきて、スマホの画面を見せてきた。
そこには翻訳された日本語で、こうあった。
「何を注文したいですか？」
思いがけず、驚いた。どうやら彼らは、僕が注文に困っていることに、気づいていたらしいのだ。
僕がメニューを読めないことを伝えると、彼らはメニューを一つひとつ翻訳してくれた。
「これは牛肉、これは鶏肉、これは…」
彼らが説明してくれた後で、僕は年長らしい彼に訊いた。
「君のおすすめはどれ？」
すると彼は、ステーキとソーセージのタコスを指差した。
年少の彼も頷いているので、僕がそれに決めると、また翻訳した言葉を見せてきた。
「では、この料理を注文しましょうか？」
彼は店員さんを呼ぶと、そのタコス料理を注文してくれた。
「グラシアス。ありがとう…」
そう伝えてから、僕は彼らに言った。
「よかったら、一緒に写真を撮る？」
すると彼らは、大喜びで、一緒に写真を撮った。
僕にできるお礼なんて、そのくらいしかない気がしたから。

彼らと別れ、やがて運ばれてきたステーキとソーセージのタコスを食べると、それは素晴らしく美味しい料理だった。
たぶん、彼らが助けてくれなければ、こんな幸せな夜を過ごすことはできなかっただろう。
メキシコシティは治安が悪いと聞く。実際、悪い人もたくさんいるのだと思う。
しかし同時に、彼らのような、純粋な優しさを持った少年たちもいる街であるということ。
そのことは忘れたくないな、と感じた夜だったのでした🌮
