@sanquines The combination of feeling like he should have been able to save Gabriel and feeling like he should have been there when his mother passed have made him very protective of his onky remaining family - his sister.
The guilt he carries, despite being misguided, is very heavy.

@sanquines This event caused him to swear revenge on the dragon but before he could do anything more, the gates of Ishgard closed due to Nidhogg's attacks and he was forced to stay within the city.
During this time his adoptive mother died and his adoptive sister had to handle it alone.--
