🚨 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT!
Residents of Lassen County and adjacent communities impacted by gusty winds and low humidity are encouraged to practice fire-safe behavior due to a Red Flag Warning in effect 11 a.m. today through 11 p.m. Saturday.
During these conditions, fires start easily and spread quickly.
#OneLessSpark can make all the difference:
🔥 Avoid outdoor burning
🔥 Secure trailer chains
🔥 Use caution with equipment and vehicles in dry grass
🔥 Follow local fire restrictions
🔥 Report signs of smoke or fire immediately

🌲 When we talk about forest health, we mean ALL of it.
Grasslands, wetlands, shrublands, and desert ecosystems are all part of the picture. In California, these are all “forests,” and they all require science-based management and care.
CAL FIRE protects more than 31 million acres of California’s diverse wildlands. That includes the dense timber forests most people picture, but it also includes every other landscape that shapes fire behavior and community safety across the state.
🌎 This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating the full variety of California’s forests. Forest health is the foundation of everything we do.

🚨 We’d all like to think, “It won’t happen to me.”
But when there’s an incident nearby, it’s important to know the difference between evacuation orders, evacuation warnings, and what is meant by a shelter-in-place order.

🏘️ A safer community doesn't happen by accident. It happens because people decide to build one.
That's exactly what this community did. Through a CAL FIRE-funded fuel break project, landowners in Spanish Flat in north El Dorado County worked to clear, mulch, and create defensible space on a large scale. When wildfire came, firefighters had a safe corridor to work from, and homes were successfully defended.
This is what preparation looks like. This is what working with your community makes possible.

Behind every emergency response is a person who showed up trained, prepared, and committed.
Earlier this week, CAL FIRE personnel were recognized at the 2026 California EMS Awards, an annual ceremony honoring the individuals and teams who go above and beyond in emergency medical care across California. This award is a reflection of their commitment and of the standard our members hold themselves to in service to California's communities.
👏 Join us in congratulating our honorees!

ICYMI: @CAL_FIRE opened applications for 2 grant programs totaling up to $100M for community wildfire prevention and landscape resilience projects. Concept proposals for one program are due June 30; applications for the other are due July 8. https://t.co/1OYR5J9ESp
🚁 When wildfires grow, California’s response grows with them.
CAL FIRE trains and certifies military helicopter crews so they can safely and effectively support wildfire operations during major incidents. 1/5
The goal is simple: every aircraft in the sky must support firefighters on the ground safely and effectively.
That means clear communication, coordinated tactics and a shared understanding of wildfire operations. 4/5
Meet Tanya Meyers, the Wildfire County Coordinator for Yolo County 👋
Since 2021, #WildfireCountyCoordinators, powered by a partnership between @cafiresafe and CAL FIRE, have been increasing community wildfire resilience by planning and advancing prevention, preparedness, mitigation, and recovery projects.
For Tanya, access to CAL FIRE outreach materials and ongoing collaboration has been foundational to building wildfire preparedness in her community.
From distributing Ready for Wildfire materials at local events to sharing defensible space and home hardening resources, these tools have helped make wildfire safety information more accessible and actionable for residents 🔥
That partnership has also extended into long-term planning. Through the Wildfire County Coordinator program, Tanya worked closely with CAL FIRE to help develop Yolo County’s first Community Wildfire Protection Plan—bringing together a local steering committee and maintaining strong, ongoing communication with CAL FIRE staff.

Did you know bystander CPR can double or triple the chance of survival after cardiac arrest?
For CAL FIRE firefighters, CPR is a skill that gets practiced over and over because reliability under pressure is built through repetition, not luck.
❤ This CPR Awareness Week, we're encouraging every Californian to get trained. A certification course takes just a few hours. Find a CPR class near you at: https://t.co/pdUfcSuq3Y

Today, we pause to honor the CAL FIRE personnel who gave their lives in service to California in the month of June.
Their dedication came at the highest cost. We honor their sacrifice, remember their stories, and recognize the enduring impact they have left on our department and the communities they served.

🚨 ICYMI: We’re ready.
With temperatures climbing across California, conditions are shifting quickly—making preparedness more important than ever. CAL FIRE resources are already in position, trained, and ready to respond the moment they’re needed.
While fire activity increases heading into warmer months, preparedness is already in motion across the state. Prevention, response capability, and public awareness all work together to help protect lives, property, and communities.
@KPX | CBS News Bay Area recently highlighted this work in a segment showcasing how we’re prepared for heightened fire activity and what readiness looks like in real time.

How #CALFIRE fights wildfires 4/4
➡ Air support: Helicopters conduct water drops while fixed-wing aircraft apply fire retardant to slow the fire’s spread, allowing firefighters on the ground to suppress the fire.
Every fire is different, so we use the most effective mix of strategies to protect lives, property, and #WildfireResponse #Firefighting
🔥 Different ways we fight wildland fires.
When combating wildfire, CAL FIRE employs a range of operational strategies that generally fall into three categories:
How #CALFIRE fights wildfires 1/4
How #CALFIRE fights wildfires 3/4
➡️ Indirect attack: Crews work ahead of the fire, building control lines and conducting firing operations to help steer it away from homes and communities.

🌳 We need YOUR help.
The Goldspotted Oak Borer (GSOB) is an invasive pest quietly damaging oak trees across Southern California. It spreads quietly, and by the time trees show signs of damage, it’s often too late.
The GSOB Blitz is a community effort where people like you help spot and report signs of the beetle while you’re out in nature. Your observations can help experts track the spread and protect healthy forests. If you hike, camp, or spend time outdoors in Southern California, you can be a part of the solution and help save California’s oaks.
