Hey @elonmusk and @realDonaldTrump you are destroying Americans’ lives with #DOGE.
For example, I made low flow estimates for communities and families to ensure they were discharging wastewater or withdrawing water in a manner that preserves that resource for future Americans.
So many decentralized rain gardens and bioretention cells! Many of them linear and in-series, which is an effective way to lay them out. Wonderful examples of green stormwater infrastructure @inDowntownPDX@sustainablepdx@PSUArchitecture
Mass squishing: an ecological trap whereby a road and the associated vehicles impede amphibian migrating from wetland to upland habitat. These massive casualties are typically flattened at night during rainfall. Here is an example of a recent one on Rose Lane in Raleigh, NC.
Happy Friday #BAEPack!🐺
It's always a good week when we have successful defenses in Weaver Labs.
This week Caleb Mitchell and Mohammad Nooshzadi had successful defenses!
On Tuesday I successfully defended my PhD dissertation titled Resilience of Stormwater Control Measures to Floods, Bioterrorism, and Industrial Runoff. It was a fun and rewarding experience. Thanks to @Storm_Doc for giving me this and many other opportunities to chase the storms!
Thank you @NaomiWithNature for posting this pic! As all y’all’s advisor, I am blessed to count so many amazing grad students (& supporting folks) as part of the Stormwater Team. Here’s 2 more pix to additionally capture the joy of celebrating the successes of @CalculatorCaleb
@USGS_SAWSC@savannahstate Amazing! Tell the King and Queen that I am enjoying their country while at the @IWAHQ International Conference on Urban Drainage.
This week I started as a Hydrologist with the @USGS_SAWSC!
Joyful for this next chapter! I’ll start by researching hydrologic extremes: (1) low flows and (2) flood flows
Stay tuned for my @NCState_BAE PhD defense: Resilience of SCMs to floods, bioterrorism & industrial runoff
Today, NC State BAE Extension hosted a joint workshop with the @EPA and Ohio State University. The "Evaluating Stormwater Control Measures' Mitigation of Biological Terrorism" workshop provided information for a variety of different groups. @Storm_Doc@NCSUStormwater
Happy World Wetlands Day! I challenge you to tell at least one person (who does not already know) how important they are to protect and rebuild. Then challenge them to do the same!
It’s been so long since I’ve Tweeted that they changed the name to X.
It’s been so long since they came up with the water quality design storm that you need to multiply it by X.
Harvesting my backyard wetland plants led to some cool discoveries:
1) roots grow bigger in water than in a soil-gravel, and
2) preferencial flow paths occur beneath the roots within the gravel where anaerobic conditions prevail.
PhD candidate @CalculatorCaleb, Research Scholar Jack Kurki-Fox & Assoc Ext Prof @BDoll66 will present in the Extreme Event Hydrologic and Water Quality Modeling session 145 beginning at 2:30 pm. 💦

Why do I always get stuck watering permeable pavers…
Because I’m always testing out the infiltration of the pavement before and after maintenance.
This test plot is only 2.5 months old, but lack of erosion control allowed the disturbed soil to clog it. More tests tomorrow!
