๐ต CHARGES LAID: DRUGS & CASH SEIZED IN DRUG TRAFFICKING OPERATION ๐ต
We have seized more than $350,000 worth of drugs as part of an ongoing operation that is targeting drug & firearms activity throughout Calgary.
๐ In September 2026, our Organized Crime Enforcement Unit (OCEU) and Strategic Data Integration & Intelligence Analytical Unit (SDIIAU) worked together to develop Operation Guardian.
Operation Guardian uses geospatial analysis & crime data to detect areas where drug & firearms activity is increasing relative to historical patterns, resulting in early criminal hot spot detection. Officers within OCEU use this analysis to deploy to these areas to disrupt criminal activity, collect intelligence and conduct investigations & enforcement.
Since the operation launched on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, these intelligence-led insights have resulted in 67 traffic stops, 4 separate drug trafficking investigations, 5 arrests & 17 charges. In total, we have seized:
๐น 3.18 kilograms of fentanyl
๐น 175.5 grams of powder cocaine
๐น 66.2 grams of crack cocaine
๐น 701 fentanyl pills
๐น More than $12,000 in cash
As part of our investigations, 5 people have been charged:
๐ Trevor BREAU, 34, of Calgary, was charged with 2 counts each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking & resisting or obstructing a peace officer. He was also charged under the Radiocommunications Act with 1 count each of unlawful operation of a radio apparatus & unlawful possession of equipment/device. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026.

๐ A 15-year-old girl, of Calgary, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking & 1 count of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 9, 2026.
This work was enabled by a recent realignment of resources in our Organized Crime & Offender Management Section, which allowed for greater co-ordination between investigative resources.
Proactive investigation & enforcement efforts related to Operation Guardian are ongoing.

Calgary is expected to grow from 1.58 million residents to nearly 1.69 million by 2030. As the city grows, so does the demand for emergency response, investigations, traffic safety, crime prevention & community engagement.
Over the past 10 years, Calgaryโs cop-to-pop. ratio (officers per 100,000 residents) has declined by 15%. Without additional frontline officers, the cop-to-pop. ratio will continue to fall. This can lead to reduced service for Calgarians, increased pressure on employees & more challenges with retention, leaves & accommodations.
The 2027 to 2030 Business Plan and Budget Recommendation is designed to help the Calgary Police Service keep pace with population growth, improve staffing levels & continue providing the level of service Calgarians expect now and in the future.

The Calgary Police Service Financial Crime Investigation Unit's Fraud Team has charged 1 man in relation to a bank investigator fraud scam in which offenders allegedly impersonated financial institutions & Calgary police officers using caller ID spoofing technology.
Between Saturday, June 7, 2025, & Monday, July 14, 2025, the Calgary Police Service received several reports of bank investigator fraud scams.
In these scams, offenders use caller ID spoofing technology to display legitimate financial institution customer service telephone numbers on victims' caller ID. The calls appear to originate from the victims' financial institution. Offenders then falsely claim unauthorized transactions have compromised the victims' accounts & linked them to criminal activity.
Victims are then directed to speak with individuals posing as Calgary police officers & instructed to place their bank cards in envelopes for courier pickup from their homes. The cards & associated banking information are then used to conduct unauthorized ATM withdrawals & point-of-sale purchases.
Through CCTV footage, investigators identified a suspect allegedly purchasing & redeeming gift cards. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.
๐ As a result, Imani Lionel CROSS, 26, of Calgary, is charged with 1 count of fraud over $5,000, 2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime & 1 count of laundering the proceeds of crime. CROSS was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.
CROSS is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026.
By the numbers:
Bank & police impersonation scams continue to be an emerging trend across Canada & are not isolated to Calgary or the Calgary Police Service. We have also seen offenders pose as RCMP officers & direct victims to transfer cryptocurrency or deposit money into Bitcoin ATMs. Police services across the country continue to investigate these scams & work to identify & hold those responsible accountable.
In 2025, we received 24 reports involving both bank and police impersonation, compared with 7 reports so far in 2026.
For police impersonation scams specifically, we received 171 reports in 2025, compared with 27 reports so far in 2026.
The 2026 statistics are current as of Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026.
We continue to encourage Calgarians to remain vigilant when contacted by anyone claiming to represent a financial institution, police service or another trusted organization. Police will never ask you to send money, transfer cryptocurrency or deposit funds into a Bitcoin ATM as part of an investigation.
Fraud prevention tips
The Calgary Police Service reminds citizens that:
๐น Financial institutions & police will never ask you to mail bank cards, provide banking credentials, send money or make purchases as part of an investigation.
๐นBe cautious of unexpected calls, emails or text messages claiming to be from your bank, police or another trusted organization. Fraudsters can spoof phone numbers & create convincing messages that appear legitimate.
๐นWhen in doubt, delete suspicious messages or hang up, then contact the organization directly using an official phone number or website to verify the request.
๐น Never share personal information, banking information, passwords or verification codes with an unsolicited caller or sender.
๐น If you feel pressured to act immediately or something does not seem right, stop the conversation & speak with a trusted friend, family member or co-worker before taking any action.

Thanks to tips from the public, we have identified the witness in relation to a shooting that occurred in northeast Calgary on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.
We would like to thank the media & the public for their assistance.
Last week, our Traffic Unit focused on pedestrian safety in downtown Calgary, providing education & enforcement around safe crossing & yielding to pedestrians. A total of 36 summonses were issued.
Unfortunately, since this video was filmed, 2 more pedestrians have died on Calgary's roads, bringing this year's total to 9 pedestrian fatalities. Itโs a difficult reminder of why we all need to make safe choices on our roads.
Before you step off the curb, take a second & make sure youโre crossing safely:
๐น Use designated crosswalks & stay within the lines.
๐น If the countdown has started & you havenโt entered the crosswalk, wait for the next walk signal.
๐น Stay alert & make sure itโs safe to cross.
Behind the wheel? Keep an eye out for pedestrians:
๐น Watch for pedestrians at crosswalks & intersections.
๐น Be prepared to stop & yield to pedestrians when required.
๐น Slow down & stay alert, especially in areas with lots of foot traffic.
โผ๏ธ Road safety is a shared responsibility. Drivers need to watch for pedestrians, but pedestrians also need to follow the rules & make safe choices.
After many considerations, we have asked for the publicโs help to identify this witness as we believe she may have important information that could advance the investigation into a shooting that has left a man in critical condition. At this time, there is nothing to indicate she would be in danger for coming forward to speak with police. We ask anyone with information about her identity to contact police.
โ ๏ธ On Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at 9:45 a.m., officers recorded a driver travelling 163 km/h in a 100 km/h zone along Stoney Trail near 130 Avenue S.W.
The driver was summoned to court, where penalties will be determined.
โผ๏ธ The faster you drive, the less time you have to react. Slow down, follow the posted speed limit & help keep our roads safe.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special event possible & create a welcoming Halloween experience for all.
๐ Halloween should be spooky, not scary! The Calgary Partners for Safety are reminding trick-or-treaters how to stay safe & have fun:
โ All pedestrian rules still apply!
โ Look both ways & walk, don't run & cross the street at intersections.
โ Wear bright, reflective clothing to be visible to drivers on the road.
โ Ensure children have a fully charged phone & know their route.
๐ป For drivers:
โ Slow down & be extra cautious in residential areas.
โ Drive defensively - expect children to dart out from between parked cars.
โ Watch carefully for people using pedestrian crossings.

We continue to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred this morning in the community of Martindale.
๐ On Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, at approx. 5:40 a.m., a westbound driver attempted to turn into a parking lot at 135 Martindale Blvd. N.E.
A pedestrian was laying on the sidewalk in front of the parking lot entrance & the driver passed over him.
Upon realizing the gate to the parking lot was closed, the driver reversed his vehicle, passing over the pedestrian a second time, before accessing the parking lot from a different entrance & parking.
At that point, the driver, a man his 50s, learned of the pedestrian from bystanders.
The victim was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.

As Calgary continues to grow and public safety challenges become more complex, the CPS needs to be able to recruit, train and support the next generation of police officers.
The 2027 to 2030 Business Plan and Budget includes investments in training equipment and facilities, scenario-based training and simulation tools, digital learning platforms, and recruit wellness and psychological support programs to ensure officers are prepared for the job from day one.
