This is unbelievable. Tobi Lütke, CEO of Shopify and strong supporter of Pierre Poilievre, thinks that the old and poor should not have the right to vote.

Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke thinks your vote should count less if you’re poor.

He called Toronto town hall attendees “Retired, Unemployed, Unemployable, and useful idiots.” Then he argued that pensioners are “dependents” who shouldn’t vote at all, “just like dependents under age.”

Someone proposed going further: zero votes if you pay no income tax, up to five votes if you pay tax on $500K+. Lütke’s response was two words: “Good system.”

This is a man who took home $205.5 million in 2024 alone. The highest paid CEO in Canada. Net worth north of $10 billion.

So the guy who profits off small business owners and gig workers building stores on his platform wants those same people to have less say in how the country is run than he does. The waitress who worked 40 years and earns a modest pension? Dependent. Disqualified. Tobi? Five votes.

That isn’t a governance theory, it’s billionaire trying to write his own class into permanent political control.

Tobi Lutke, CEO of one of Canada's biggest companies believes that poor people deserve less democracy because they're poor.

"The richer you are, the more your vote should count" is certainly... a take.

The French had a historical response to that kind of thinking.

It’s actually exhausting to be an Albertan. Having our data stolen has been the final straw for many. Smith needs to be removed and the nightmare UCP dissolved into oblivion. Write, email and call your MLAs and demand action!!
