« nickname. he’d been ‘calhoun’ or ‘cal’ ever since high school. it was sorta nice to hear his first name again…
“but seriously, let me atleast buy you a drink or somethin’, to say thank you at least.”
he hadn’t noticed that their hands were still gripping one another.
it was like he felt a damn spark when their hands touched— though, maybe he shouldn’t be thinking about a kind stranger that way.
“oh, dang, you’re right. river is just fine then.”
he’d grin sheepishly; he didn’t dislike his name, not at all, he was just used to that »
He shook his head with a smile tugging on his lips.
"You don't have to do that, it's on the house!"
Turning from the truck he took his hand and shook it. Trying not to think too hard about how nice it felt in his own. Flustered as he thought of a what to say.
"Uh! Nice to
“really? that’s mighty kind’a you— i’d pay for ‘em of course.”
he’d smile, a hand to his chest in gratitude for the stranger’s kindness.
“oh, where are my manners— river calhoun, but everyone calls me cal.”
he’d offer a handshake.
"I can lend you some stuff if you need it. I have way too much, so you'd be doing me a favor."
Striding over and bending his head under the hood. He started messing with the spark plug.
"Hey, I didn't get your name. Might as well get to know each other while we're here."
“y’know i should probably do that too— this puppy always seems to be breakin’ down on me.”
he’d chuckle, stepping back further.
“go ahead. i’m thinkin’ it’s a faulty spark plug, but that might not be the only problem.”
"Maybe I could help. I always carry spare parts with me in case my car breaks down."
He gestured towards the hood of the vehicle. Brows raising a bit. "Want me to take a look?"
