if you’re living in LA, and safe, please share footage of what you’re seeing in the comments here. think it would be good to have a single, easy thread to read, to help people understand how bad it is right now
@anthonymarinos Truth be told, it wasn’t intended to be but that’s what it ended up being. It was fitting that it came full circle as our first and last event!
My only two regrets with Calithon:
-That I didn't know the last one would be the last one
-That I didn't know about it sooner
I met some of my favorite people and made some of my favorite memories at these events
Thanks to all the staff, volunteers, and runners for everything
I might have missed some and I’ll add them to this thread as time goes by, but we literally wouldn’t have anything were it not for the generosity and professional guidance those individuals have shown.
I never managed to make it out to a Calithon, which is so highly regrettible as, along with the GDQs, it was a goal for a long while when I actively did runs.
I think its a large loss for speedrunning and will be sorely missed. Huge respect to Jeff and Shasta for this event.
Calithon Stand Strong was my first big marathon I ran in. Being able to close the event with Crash 4, for an audience of thousands, supporting a very personal cause (Stop AAPI Hate), is something I’ll always cherish.
Sad I didn’t do more, but happy to have been a part of it.
I only made it out to one of their events in person but they really had something special going on over there at calithon, who else would be willing to give me two badges
Calithon 2016 was how I got my start as a speedrunner, and my first in-person marathon run happened a year later with darbian, duckfist, and r3dninjajosh. I'm honored to be able to participate in a lot of their marathons. Without them, I wouldn't be where I am today.
Big sad, I’m very proud to have been a part of calithon for most of its life and it really was some of the most fun I’ve had with speedrunning. Hope other smaller events can continue to thrive, they’re such a big part of the speedrunning community
