Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (1951) has received a 4K restoration and is coming to 4K UHD physical media on 5/5, as well as Digital in celebration of the film's 75th anniversary this year. Pre-order and case art to come.

Regarding the restoration, "Over nine months, artists completed a digital scan of the original nitrate Successive Exposure (SE) negatives, followed by extensive clean-up to address dust, warping, and age-related wear. The team also referenced original production artwork preserved by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library to ensure the restoration remained true to the filmmakers’ original intent, collaborating closely with Walt Disney Animation Studios veteran Michael Giaimo to review every shot and refine color and luminance.

Viewers eager to go further down the rabbit hole will find a robust collection of bonus features on the Blu-ray and Digital release, offering rare behind-the-scenes and archival material. Highlights include reference footage with commentary by Alice herself, Kathryn Beaumont, along with classic companion shorts such as Thru the Mirror featuring Mickey Mouse and Alice’s Wonderland from the original Alice Comedies, a selection of deleted scenes, and music videos including “Beware the Jabberwock” and “If You’ll Believe in Me.

The newly restored film will debut with a special one-night-only premiere at the TCM Film Festival on May 1, offering audiences an early look at the vibrant, meticulously remastered and restored presentation before it’s in-home release."

Il n’y a pas de prix juste, tout se calcule par rapport à la fabrication. Les droits d’un film peuvent varier entre 3000 et 12 000€. Pour en vendre 1000, l’éditeur doit donc payer 3 à 12€ par exemplaire pour les droits. Puis le travail autour, le sous titrage, le graphisme, l’authoring et le pressage. Pour un combo UHD 100 BD50 c’est 7€ rien que le pressage.
Donc pour un film à 5 000€ de droits plus les 7€ de pressage, l’édition vaut au bas mot déjà 12€ à rentabiliser. D’où un prix cher car à 20€, 16,67HT ce n’est pas rentable tout simplement.
Faut se poser la question quand vous achetez quasi au même prix des blu-ray anglais ou américains au même prix qu’en France alors qu’ils en vendent 10 fois plus. 🙂
