A winning mindset goes beyond the scoreboard; it’s a dedication to growth and resilience that fuels success in sports and life. Wins and losses are inevitable, but how you respond to each makes all the difference. Celebrate wins, but stay humble—use them as reminders of what worked. For losses, approach them as opportunities for insight. Reflect on what went wrong, and determine how you can improve. This reflective practice is what turns a setback into a stepping stone.
Mindful drills can help reinforce this mindset. In sports, visualization exercises before a game help athletes anticipate challenges, keeping them mentally agile. Similarly, a daily gratitude journal can keep you grounded in the present, highlighting the positives even when things don’t go as planned. Self-evaluation exercises, like keeping a performance log, help track progress and identify areas for improvement.
When facing a loss, focus on the lessons. Adjust your approach, modify your techniques, and stay open to coaching. Remember that setbacks aren’t failures—they’re part of the journey to mastery. With a winning mindset, you’re always moving forward, learning, and growing.

🎃Spooky, but real
On Halloween, we put on masks 🤡 and play pretend 👻.
But in sports, pretending to be someone you’re not only holds you back. 🙀
Maybe you’re a vocal player and your voice is silenced. 🤫 Maybe you’re the silent worker who they want to be louder. 🫣 Either of these scenarios and many more can negatively impact physical and mental performance!
Authenticity is your edge—embrace it, grow from it.
Don’t let a fake persona become your full-time costume. 👹

📸 Men as Heroes: What True Strength Looks Like 💪
A hero isn’t just someone who’s strong or bold; a hero is someone worth looking up to. Young people watch our actions more than they hear our words. So, what messages are we sending?
When men turn to excessive drinking, misuse substances, act without kindness, or engage in violence, those choices leave marks. They don’t show strength—they show a lack of control, compassion, and respect. Poor financial decisions or reckless behavior? That teaches irresponsibility, not resilience.
Our behavior matters. True heroes build others up, make wise choices, and face challenges with integrity. They’re the men who demonstrate respect, responsibility, and kindness every day.
💬 Remember: people are watching, and every action teaches something. Let’s be the kind of men who inspire, not disappoint.

Coaches, Mentors, and Dads: Everyday Heroes or Villains in Disguise?
In the lives of athletes, students, and young people, coaches, mentors, and fathers are often the everyday heroes. They don’t wear capes, but they’re a source of wisdom, compassion, guidance, and sometimes, tough love. These figures give pieces of themselves in ways that shape lives, laying the foundation for success, resilience, and confidence. They set an example—good or bad—and offer their experiences as lessons to help others grow.
How they communicate this guidance makes all the difference. Unfortunately, some heroes become villains in disguise.
When we think of “tough love,” it’s easy to imagine yelling or harsh criticism. Yet true tough love isn’t about tearing someone down; it’s about building them up with honest, caring feedback that inspires growth.
Tough love and positive guidance walk hand-in-hand, but effective communication is essential. Here’s how coaches, mentors, and fathers can ensure they’re empowering rather than discouraging:
Use Constructive Feedback Instead of Hypercritical Language
•Constructive feedback: Acknowledge strengths while providing specific, actionable advice on areas to improve. For example, “Your speed is great, but focusing on your footwork can make you even faster.”
•Avoid hypercritical comments: Constantly pointing out faults without balancing with encouragement can erode confidence. Instead of “You keep messing up,” try, “Let’s break down that part you’re struggling with and find a way.”
Men, we must be better in how we handle those we pour into to break generational cycles of problems.

Family. Love. Accountability. Strength. Honesty. 💯
⚡️FLASH ⚡️
As athletes and men, it’s easy to focus on what happens on the field or job, but the qualities that define us don’t just come from the game.
Family—both blood and the ones we choose—reminds us of where we come from.
Love fuels the work we put in day after day.
Accountability to ourselves and our team teaches us that success isn’t just personal—it’s a shared journey.
Strength is more than muscle; it’s resilience, pushing forward when things get tough.
And honesty? That’s about being real with ourselves, owning mistakes, and always staying true to our values.
Let’s build our legacy on and off the field.

So, for MO fall sports we have 8-15 football coaches, 3-4 softball coaches, 3-4 volleyball coaches, 3-4 soccer coaches, and 3-4 cross country coaches for a rough estimate of 250-300 student athletes.
For those same athletes, we have 1 (maybe 2 if lucky) athletic trainer. That AT almost always is paid less than an assistant coach annually, but has a masters degree and healthcare license.
Tell me again why funding for ATs is being cut. I’m more than happy to listen.
Nation wide, we have seen more student athlete deaths this year already than normal yearly averages in the fall.
Riddle me that Batman!

I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, and most of all my parents. Without their support my dream to wrestle at the next level would not have come true. With that being said I can't wait to continue my education and wrestling career at Minnesota State University, Mankato
