It is now time for my departure; October 1602. Spending these past 7 months from March-October in the Marianas. I have paid close attention to their everyday lives and they are humble regular people just like us, just trying to survive.
Arrived on Rota, not only have I met the natives of this island, but I’ve met some Spaniards and Spanish servants, who were either survivors of a few shipwrecks or had jumped ship as well. #travelforfree
I was surprised by the non-Christian Chamorros’ seemingly Christian ways 🤔 , but the Spanish servants tend to enjoy their stay here. Saying that, “but these “barbarians” treat us as Christians, and the “Christians” treat us as barbarians.”
And that hit me hard
I’ve met a Spanish survivor; Sancho, who has lived on Guam. His description of the Chamorros is helping my perspective out even more since my stay here at Rota. #Livinglife#updatescomingsoon
This was the Manila galleon; Santa Margarita. I was ordered with several Christian missionaries to retrieve any survivors because it got wrecked after being badly damaged by a typhoon while they were leaving the P.I
