Last image of a wife and husband in Asheville, NC sheltering from the flood on a roof.
The roof would soon collapse, causing them and their 6 year old grandchild to drown.
Their daughter and mother of the child took the photograph.
When the roof collapsed, she got wedged between debris and was able to be rescued an hour later.
And things are way way worse in Burnsville. These pictures need to reach people.
@WxLiz NC is my home state. It would get eyes on it, and eyes on it means donations to people who lost very literally everything. Houses that had been in the family for generations, gone. Every piece of clothing and can of food you have, gone.
@KamalaHarris That’s cool, WHAT ABOUT THE APPALACHIAN FLOODS??! Thousands are missing, the damage is worse than Katrina. This wasn’t a once in a lifetime flood, this was “has never happened and never thought could ever happen” flood.
Did u know a storm just wiped entire north carolina towns off the map and completely isolated Asheville, which has gone dark due to no Internet/water/power/ways to leave the city. Barely seen any news about it. Am I tripping cuz this seems like it should be bigger news
Imagine hundreds of tiny islands. Each island has 100 - 150 people on it. The island has no power, no comms, and is running dangerously low on food & water.
And there are no boats.
That is Western North Carolina tonight.
Didn’t realize how many folks have no idea where Asheville and these other underwater towns are.
I’m in Raleigh- 2hrs inland. Asheville is 4hrs west of me, up in the blue ridge mountains. It was unthinkable that a hurricane could wipe out towns this far inland & high up.
@Tim_Walz They need more coverage!!! This is far and away worse than Katrina and no one is covering it. Thousands are missing. No food, no water, no power, no gas, no phone service.
@AP Why aren’t you covering the Appalachian floods? By damage, and likely death, this is FAR worse than Katrina and they had almost no warning. Thousands of ppl are missing, entire homes floated away, the town of Chimney Rock just doesn’t exist anymore. No food, no water, no news
