NLO Warns On Registration Discrepancies, Age Falsification For U-19 Youth League
The Nationwide League One has warned clubs in the U19 Youth League of tough sanctions if found wanting for registration discrepancies and age falsification, as it remains dedicated to maintaining a transparent and professional platform for genuine talent discovery.
Ahead of the new season, the NLO Secretariat received concerning documents submitted by some clubs that lack sportsmanship, prompting it to reaffirm its zero-tolerance policy on administrative fraud, especially regarding player documents and age falsification.
To preserve the integrity of the developmental league, it has implored a Rigorous Verification process. All players' registration data, including birth certificates, NIN, and previous club passports, will be thoroughly validated.
Any club caught submitting inconsistent, forged, or fraudulent documents will be reported directly to the Nigeria Football Federation Ethics and Integrity Committee for appropriate sanctions.
The penalties for violators will not only be immediate disqualification from the league but also severe sanctions by the NFF, which may include long-term bans from all football activities and substantial fines.
It is essential to eradicate fraud and age cheating from Nigerian football. The U-19 League aims for authentic youth development; any rule circumvention compromises the integrity of the NLO and endangers the future of Nigerian football.
The NLO calls on all clubs to diligently verify their player submissions. Let’s collaborate to uphold fairness and integrity in the sport.
So sad how we don't value our home made products. Why are most Nigeria league players not patronising @wurasportsaf for boot.
Only few players appreciate the Nigeria made
Last WAFCON, I covered the tournament entirely with my own funds. No brand support. No compensation. Just a commitment to telling the stories of African women’s football.
At the men’s AFCON in 2025, several brands reached out to work with me.
Now, as WAFCON 2026 begins, it’s the same story again. No brand partnerships.
I also choose not to work with betting companies, which naturally limits some sponsorship opportunities, but that’s a decision I’m comfortable with.
The cost of quality coverage doesn’t change because it’s women’s football. Flights, accommodation, transport, equipment, just to name a few isn’t cheap.
European Scouts, Agents To Hit Nigeria For NLO Cup
Following the conclusion of the regular Division One season, the NLO has revealed the commencement of the remodelled NLO Cup.
This tournament aims to keep clubs active and competitive during the off-season, preventing players from extended periods of inactivity.
Dr. Olushola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer, shared more details about the revamped NLO Cup with the media channel of Nigeria's third-tier league.
"The NLO Cup aspires to high goals, offering financial incentives for clubs through Return on Investment (ROI) and providing a platform to identify emerging talent.
"By involving both foreign scouts and local/international agents, the tournament facilitates player transfers that benefit clubs financially and gives top talents international exposure.
"The NLO continues to be a key part of Nigeria's football calendar, serving as a pathway to domestic leagues, national teams, and European opportunities."
Dr. Ogunnowo noted that the NLO has become more attractive to high-net-worth individuals and businesses seeking prestige.
The 2026 edition will start with regional matches, played across designated zones to minimise travel. Zone winners will meet at a central venue for the final playoff to crown the champion.
To maximise global visibility, all matches will be live-streamed worldwide on digital platforms.
Details about registration fees, zonal groupings, and the full schedule will be announced soon through official NLO channels. All clubs are encouraged to participate, keeping their squads match-ready and providing players a chance to advance internationally.
