"Still - I'd love to see it one day. Maybe we could play something together—"
He's just excited by the idea of someone new to talk to about music and stuff, but he's also aware of how weird he's probably coming across, so he quickly reins it in.
"I mean, if you're ever bored -
"Yes, but not all the time."
They had more important matters to be taking care of to spend their time playing music.
"It's more so a hobby..something I do in my free time."
He's not self-aware enough to notice the other people staring. He's far too interested in the conversation right now, honestly. It's nice to have someone new to talk to, as sad as that probably sounds.
"You play?" His eyes visibly light up.
Their gaze has moved elsewhere, watching the people who seemed to be eyeing them. Whispering to one another.
"A lot of things..but you probably wouldn't believe me nor would you understand.
I play guitar to pass the time though."
- guarantee, y'know? Just gotta keep trying."
Fingertips idly circling the rim of his now empty glass as he gazes at them, tilting his head curiously.
"What about you? What do you do?"
"Right now, yeah. Gotta start somewhere, right? We're pretty hopeful that things will get better for us one day. Y'know— our big break or whatever."
He picks up his own glass, swiftly following suit, necking it in one gulp before placing it back down.
"But that's never a -
Reaching for their glass they'd pick it up and stare at the alcohol, swirling it around in the glass. Head tipped back to down it in one go.
"A singer..and you're still only playing in bars?"
"I sing, mostly. Used to play a lot of piano growing up, though. My mom used to have this gorgeous grand piano in the living room. I loved listening to her play."
The bartender returns swiftly with their drinks, and he retrieves his own with a small, grateful smile.
Tapping their fingers against the bartop they'd lean back in their seat, ordering themself a glass of whisky.
"Do you sing or play an instrument?"
Their head turned to look at him, taking in his appearance once more.
"It gets a pretty good crowd, yeah. I play here some nights. You should check it out." He flashes them a little smile and a modest little shrug before turning back to the bartender.
He orders his own drink, before turning to look at them expectantly.
"First round is on me."
They stared at the bartender. A new face. Made sense considering how long they had been away..
"Seems quite busy tonight though. Business seems to be going quite well for them.."
"That's why I choose this place. It's never too busy, never too loud. Some of the other places further downtown can get pretty crazy."
He waits for them to sit, before offering the bartender a little nod, letting him know that they're ready to order some drinks.
They're taking their time, eyeing the people within the building before making their way towards the bar to sit.
"Hm..not sure. It's quite different from the last time I was here. Very noisy."
He lets the door swing closed behind the two of them once they're both inside, immediately heading over towards the bar to take a seat on his usual stool.
"And what's the verdict? Better or worse?"
"Curiosity.."
They stepped inside the bar, taking a look around. The last time they had come around here it was smaller..quiet.
"I've been away for some time you see, I wanted to visit, see what's new or different."
"It pays the bills." He replies with a slight shrug. "Mine, and my mom's back home. That's the whole reason I moved out here."
When they reach the bar, he pushes the door open and steps inside, holding it open for them.
"What brings you back, then?"
"Years ago.."
More like centuries and it wasn't much of a city at the time. They're quite surprised to say the least.
"Must be nice..to be able to have those opportunities while living out here."
"Oh— so you have been to the city before?" He asks with a curious little tilt of his head as he looks across at them, falling back just enough to walk alongside them now.
"I'm not a fan of the noise, honestly. But this place brings opportunities that my hometown couldn't."
They're taking in the sights around them, seeming intetested in how much the world had changed since their last time on Earth.
"Hm..the noise has grown in volume over the years it seems. Interesting how much has been achieved."
He has certainly noticed the other's attire, but he isn't one to question people's fashion choices. Not with some of his own choices of outfits in the past.
"It's pretty alright. You get used to the noise after a while. It's not quite 'home' yet, though."
If he looked close enough he'd see they were in some form of a military uniform. Black and white. Almost as if they were prepared for something only they knew about.
"Yes..I've never been to this..area before."
His hands find their way back into his jacket pockets as he leads the way towards their destination, turning to glance over his shoulder occasionally to make sure they're still behind him.
"So, uh— guessing you're new to town?" He offers, attempting to make conversation.
They're quiet, following after gim with their arms crossed behind their back. Taking everything in along the way.
Earth had changed quite a bit since they were last there. What a surprise..
They had expected everything to be in ruins by now..
Devyn can't help the way he just stares for a moment, trying to work out how they suddenly look like a /slightly/ different person, but he can't put his finger on exactly what's changed.
Then he registers the request. Or rather, demand.
"Oh— uh, sure. It's this way." He nods -
Device shoved back into their pocket, a set of hazels appearing within their eyes to blend in with the humans.
"Take me there."
They said turning to face him. Seeming more..human than before.
Devyn watches closely as they check their phone, before rubbing a little nervously at the back of his neck at their question.
"There's one a few blocks this way.. it's actually where I'm headed. It's not the most lively place, though."
