🚊 A new connection is coming to Sacramento’s River District.

The California Strategic Growth Council joined Sacramento Regional Transit, local leaders and community members to celebrate the completion of the new Dos Rios Light Rail Station.

The station will connect the River District and Mirasol Village to Sacramento’s light rail system, helping residents more easily reach jobs, schools, healthcare and other essential services.

The project received $20 million through SGC programs, building on broader state investments in affordable housing, transit, walking and biking infrastructure in the community.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 To help address these challenges, the Strategic Growth Council’s Health and Equity Program and the Equity and Wellness Institute collaborated to develop the Health in All Policies (HiAP) Grant and Contract Evaluation Tool.

🌱 This resource helps state staff identify and reduce barriers early in the process, improve accessibility, streamline grant and contract processes, and advance transparency, equity, and public health.

The California Strategic Growth Council joined @CasaFamiliar and community partners to celebrate the opening of La Semilla Climate Resiliency Center in San Ysidro.

Supported by $8.5 million through SGC’s Community Resilience Centers Program, La Semilla will provide year-round services, emergency shelter and resources while advancing neighborhood-scale climate solutions.

The five-site campus features:

🌳 A community food forest
🔋 An EV charging and micro-mobility hub
💧 On-site stormwater capture and reuse
🌿 Outdoor gathering and educational spaces

🏠 #ICYMI, we announced a $10 million investment to help build housing faster, more affordably and with greater climate resilience across California.

The California Strategic Growth Council awarded funding to 10 projects across seven regions through its Factory-Built Housing Regional Pilot Program.

From supporting wildfire recovery in Los Angeles to advancing tribal-led climate-resilient housing, mass timber construction and workforce housing, these projects are testing innovative approaches that can help communities overcome barriers to housing development.

Factory-built housing can shorten construction timelines, reduce waste and emissions, support skilled jobs and incorporate durable, climate-adaptive materials — while expanding the types of housing communities can build.

🌱 The Gateway Cities Regional Climate Collaborative unveiled Building Our Future Together: Pathways to a Healthy and Resilient SELA — a roadmap shaped by community priorities and a shared vision for a healthier, stronger and more resilient Southeast Los Angeles County.

As an SGC Regional Climate Collaboratives grantee, the Gateway Cities Regional Climate Collaborative worked to strengthen partnerships and build capacity across the SELA region while advancing climate, health and workforce priorities.

Their impact is already taking shape — from hosting emergency preparedness workshops for SELA city staff and residents following the Los Angeles County wildfires, to providing $120,000 in grant writing support and technical assistance for local funding opportunities, to partnering with Charles Drew University students to engage community residents.

The roadmap identifies four priority areas for SELA’s future: strengthening civic engagement, improving infrastructure, investing in holistic community support and creating pathways to share information and resources.

SGC is proud to support this work and looks forward to continuing our partnership beyond the grant term as the region turns these priorities into action.

🌱 Expanding access to agricultural land means creating more opportunities for California’s farmers, ranchers, Tribes and tribal land stewards.

The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) is partnering with California FarmLink and the Center for Ethical Land Transition to expand secure access to land for the production of food, fiber, medicine and cultural resources.

Over the next two years:
🚜California FarmLink will provide technical assistance to historically underserved farmers and ranchers.

🌾The Center for Ethical Land Transition will support California Native American Tribes and tribal land stewards.

Funding for these partnerships is provided through California Climate Investments, which supports projects that reduce harmful emissions, protect public health, strengthen local economies and support California’s natural environments.

💜National Women’s Equality Day, August 26, commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted many women the constitutional right to vote. It also serves as a reminder that the pursuit of equality and opportunity continues.

California played an important role in the women’s suffrage movement. In 1911, California became one of the first states to grant women the right to vote—nearly a decade before the 19th Amendment extended that right nationwide.

We honor the generations of advocates who expanded civic participation and recognize the women who continue to strengthen our communities through leadership, public service, innovation, and civic engagement.

🆕 New Tool Spotlight: Expanding Access Starts with Better Grant and Contract Processes

⚕️The Health in All Policies (HiAP) Grant and Contract Evaluation Tool helps state staff evaluate grant and contract practices through a health and equity lens. The Tool was developed through a partnership between the California Strategic Growth Council’s Health and Equity Program and the California Department of Public Health’s Office of Health Equity, in collaboration with the Equity and Wellness Institute.

By identifying potential barriers early, the tool supports more accessible, transparent, and streamlined processes that help expand access to funding opportunities and better serve communities across California.

Twelve years ago today, in the early hours of a Sunday morning, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck just south of Napa, Calif.

It was the largest earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area in more than 25 years, and the first to rupture on the surface since the 1906 earthquake, according to the USGS.

The shaking caused significant damage to many buildings in downtown Napa, including the historic 1870 courthouse. A few homes even shifted off their foundations.

In the month following the mainshock, there were 80 aftershocks of M1.8 and higher, including a M4.1 approximately 10 months later.

It serves as a strong reminder that California is an earthquake country. @Cal_OES encourages everyone to download the MyShake App to get an alert seconds before you feel the shaking.
