the moment people attach their identity to things like religion, tribe, ideology, nationality or status, disagreement stops being about ideas and starts feeling like a personal attack... once that happens, people defend beliefs the same way they defend their survival.

history shows that humans cooperate easily in small groups but conflict appears when groups compete for power, resources and recognition... fear of losing influence, land, wealth or cultural dominance pushes people to protect us against them.

until humans learn to value shared survival more than group superiority, peace will always remain fragile.
