Kihei Akina is halfway to a PGA Tour card
The sophomore at @BYUmgolf finished ninth Sunday at the Bank of Utah Championship, earning two points in @PGATOURU Accelerated. That puts him at 10. If he gets to 20, he earns a PGA Tour card.
"It's in the back of your head. At the end of the day, you've just got to play golf, and that's what I did this week."
If you’ve had Golf Channel on all day, you would have watched:

An awesome golf sicko day
Kihei Akina finishes ninth at the Bank of Utah Championship, marking the first top-10 finish by an amateur on Tour since Jackson Koivun (T4) at the 2025 Procore Championship.
David Ford missed five months this year with a foot injury, some tendinitis and impingement in the ankle as he explains, and didn't play from early April until the Biltmore. This week, he had the second top-five finish of his PGA Tour career at the same place he got his first.
"I actually played through it for 8 out of 9 events this year, and the ankle pain and the foot pain in my right foot just got too bad in early April. Took a bunch of time off. Tried to go back to playing around CJ Cup, after about a month and a half. Couldn't swing without pain, so ended up taking a medical. Didn't start hitting again until probably right at a month ago, maybe a week more.
"Yeah, didn't touch a club for, I want to say, almost three months. Didn't know when I was going to play. The foot was progressing slower than we thought. So to have a tee time in Utah and even to play Asheville last week and get one event under my belt before coming here to a place I love, it feels amazing."
Will Sides, who's from Tulsa, is in a playoff at the @cschampgolf in Owasso with Sandy Scott, who won the last playoff event. Sides is projected to move just outside of the top 20 in points with one event left.
Sides hits right handed but putts left handed. Seriously
@procaddiecoach Clanton got really, really hot for a few months and got a PGA Tour card out of it. He never had the consistency that Koivun has had, then again not many have
Luke Clanton with a closing 62 in Utah, currently T-3 on the leaderboard, which would be his best finish since turning professional last summer.
Had missed six of his past seven cuts coming in. Good chance of a top-10 finish and possibly some momentum for the rest of the fall

“It’s unreal to be honest. I never usually cry but this one feels special. I’m sorry, I’m just lost for words. It’s been quite a tough year for me and to win here after ten years since turning pro, it’s a dream come true.
“After my drive on 18 I was quite happy with the position I was in and I was just trying to enjoy the walk. It’s an amazing walk when you cross the bridge, you look around and see the people and this history.
“Actually, when I was crossing the bridge I was actually thinking about Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus walking on the bridge. It was a great feeling and I really enjoyed the walk.”
