If you are wanting to succeed, then don't set yourself up for failure.
Play into your strengths and what you know you will do.
If you know you're only going to focus 3 days a week then plan for 3 days.
Play into your strengths first, then work on weaknesses.
You want to get to the position where you don't worry about what you eat. You enjoy working out, love eating well and are active without giving it a second thought.
THAT'S THE GOAL!
If you're not looking after your sleep, nutrition, you're going out on a bender on the weekend and smoking regularly then the last thing you need to worry about is having a shot of ginger and apple juice in the morning.
Become proficient in basic bodyweight movements, build a solid foundation and take your time mastering them. You will be amazed at what it will do for your performance or when you're looking to specialise.
Your body can be dragged through hell and survive.
It is amazing the amount of shit you can throw at it and keep moving forward.
Your struggle starts with whats between the ears not beneath them.
Don't let yourself down before your body does.
If you workout currently or looking to take it up in the new year I implore you to not only build a healthy exercise regime but a healthy relationship with working out too.
You're supposed to be making yourself better, not worse.
For the most part the situation we are in is because of our own doing.
Now that may take some time to accept but what you should do is make positive actions to better yourself so you don't look back again and question "how did I get here?" like it was somebody else's fault.
How to bodyweight workout:
Can't do a full squat? Work to that.
Can full squat? Work to one legged squats
Can't push up? Work to that.
Can do push ups? Work to one hand push ups
Can't pull up? Work to that.
Can do pull ups? Work to one arm pull ups.
It's that easy.
Despite all the shit that went down this year I try and look at the positives.
A lot of us got an opportunity to discover new passions and spent some much needed time with friends, family and loved ones in a setting and under circumstances which we likely wont experience again.
Tips on improving your self confidence out side of the gym:
- wash daily
- groom yourself
- keep your personal living space clean and tidy
- stand tall when you're walking
- Eat well and sleep well too it'll go a long way.
Big beginner tip:
Start with the bare minimum as far as exercises for your program.
Why?
You will know exactly where your "gains" are coming from. A minimalist approach allows you to see what exactly works and what doesnt.
You do not need lots of exercises to build muscle.
