Refresh: Rule of Thirds
Photo: Yvonne Roberts
This is a great image to end our Refresh Sharing Series. It encompasses many aspects of creative composition including the rule of thirds, natural lines and framing, captured as 'The Ribble' makes it way through Dobson's Locks.
We hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the images we captured during the production of the Refresh Course.
And if you are feeling inspired, why not check out our new photography experience: FLOAT beginning in August 2022.

Refresh: Rule of Thirds
The focal point of this image is highlighted due to its position being in the left third of the frame and also by being very sharp and in focus. The soft focus of the reeds on the opposite side of the frame creates balance and depth.
Refresh: Rule of Thirds
Captured at Dobson Locks, the main subject is placed in the left third of the frame and directs the viewers eyes across the centre line into the right side of the frame. The soft focus of the background creates balance and depth within the image.

Refresh: Rule of Thirds

Captured by the side of the canal, this is a perfect example of an image using the Rule of Thirds. The focal point is clearly offset to the left of the frame with the other side left simple and uncluttered.
Care residents will have the opportunity to be a virtual canal Boat Skipper with @CANections who will be will be filming a trip along the beautiful Leeds Waterways.
Residents will be able to communicate with the staff and the skippers and to ask them to take photographs! 🦆
For the final week of sharing images from the production of the Refresh Video Tutorials we will be focusing on images that are captured using the Rule of Thirds.
The basic concept of this is to place your subject slightly off centre in the left or right third of the image.
