@OttawaCitizen Enough already. Personally, I find renaming everything in unmemorable and upronounceable first nations' terms offensive to my "cultural" background, but what right do I have to demand that they be renamed? Time to stop wallowing on past injustices and move on.
@Dinos_Football The article missed (or ignored/sidestepped) the major issue--why was the ball handed off in the first place? Why didn't they just take a knee? Surely the most egregious coaching error in recent memory.
@TWilsonOttawa Parties in power generally get voted low. People are more than willing to express their displeasure in polls, but when it comes down to the vote, they often rethink the situation.
@TWilsonOttawa@habs4life72 To the extent CPC members/supporters get a tax deduction for their contributions, we do all pay (3 dimes on the dollar at a 30% rate).
@TWilsonOttawa If so, one of the indicators is that we continue to allow guns to people who don't need them for survival (e.g. food and protection against animals).
@TWilsonOttawa Not to say that the feds shouldn't be more involved in housing, but it always strikes me as ironic that the provinces are always so strong on constitutional jurisdiction whenever it is in their interest, but so dismissive of it when it's not.
@RealAndyLeeShow@DanKnightMMA Don't know why everyone's so worried about Chinese spying and intervention. That's already been done by the Americans--all the Chinese have to do is ask them nicely.
@BushelsPerAcre Anytime someone invokes the "greatest place on the earth" mantra, I run for cover. The US has long used the phrase to brainwash its citizens and justify its foreign incursions. It is unfortunate that Alberta leaders continue to choose to follow this example.
@smwgilbert Why are you always so into yourself? Lots of people (men, women, other) have degrees in political science. Lots of people who don't have pretty pieces of academic paper are equally adept at understanding and assessing things. Why are you always so condescending?
@CBCOttawa Voltaire - "I wholly disapprove of what you say, and will defend to the death your right to say it." Democracy demands that all views, however ignorant and distasteful, be heard, if only to ensure that they may be adequately publicly ridiculed and dismissed.
@ctvottawa We got the notification about 15 minutes after the storm had ended. Realistically, though, I doubt earlier notification would have made any difference. Maybe if we had a few days' warning we could have boarded up, but the nature of this kind of storm precludes planning.
@HRainsey @stormstatsguy @markscheig I will repeat the obvious—by definition, coercion requires the use of force or threat. Different treatment of people based on their personal choices—especially where the choice may affect others—involves neither.
@stormstatsguy @markscheig Coercion - the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats. Don’t see any force or threats in elaborating consequences.
@stormstatsguy @markscheig Sure, "persuading someone to do something by using force or threats". Don't see any force or threats here--just the imposition of a consequence. Do you have the same objection to requiring mandatory shots as a condition of school enrolment?
@stormstatsguy @markscheig But no one is being forced to get a shot--they are only being forced to decide what is more important to them, getting a shot or playing hockey. The consequence of the choice may be beyond one's control, but the choice has not been taken away.
@SMartee2525 @KamilKaramali Vaccine supplies in the other provinces are also rationed, but they’ve managed a helluva lot better. Can’t blame the feds for Ontario’s mistakes.
