@MarkBarry67@bicingboi@LPMcCueBooks@MsMelChen You're missing the point. We have EVERYTHING - you get to choose. That's too much for some people to handle (obvious with how fat a lot of Americans are) but for those of us who value freedom, it's glorious.
@bicingboi@LPMcCueBooks@MsMelChen "We have enough stuff" is the exact cultural difference she's highlighting. American culture is all about the pursuit of better (not that we always succeed-often we don't). Consider why wanting better makes you so uncomfortable.
@mana_of_moria@theboogeyman78@UnkleAyo I hope you bring that same energy to all of the Europeans who refer to themselves as European on here when they bitch about the US.
I'm flying to Paris tomorrow and I'm gonna sweat my balls off.
The cardiac unit of the Düsseldorf University Hospital, where people recover from heart surgery, is currently measuring 38°C/ 100.4°F. As you can see, the building is only about 15 years old. And built without central air-conditioning.
@theboogeyman78@mana_of_moria@UnkleAyo I get not having it in Scandinavia; many in the far north parts of the US don't bother with it either. It's the rest of them that I can't understand.
@mana_of_moria@theboogeyman78@UnkleAyo So you didn't actually look up the numbers. 50-60k dead per year. Europeans' bizarre opposition to air conditioning is barbaric & truly difficult to understand for anyone in the Americas or Asia.
@Bizkit68390579@radleftreceipts@TheChiefNerd Biology produces vast inequality. The range of abilities & motivation among humans is very wide.
We can argue forever over how we deal with that to maintain a reasonably peaceful society, but we can't even start the discussion until we agree on that premise.
@shutupmxia@BillMelugin_ Since you've assured us that they are incredible capable and hard-working, I look forward to seeing them turn Haiti's fortunes around.
@mana_of_moria@theboogeyman78@UnkleAyo Most of the US has climate closer to North Africa than Sweden. But we can't understand why Europe, so smug in its sense of superiority, refuses to address its thousands of heat deaths a year, when technology exists to prevent it.
