Makwanpur stands as a unique exception among detention centers, maintaining a balance between capacity and the confinement of juveniles in conflict with the law. Unlike other facilities grappling with overcrowding, Makwanpur avoids exceeding its limits.
For the young individuals who, driven by circumstances, find themselves entangled in legal transgressions and cannot meet fines due to economic constraints, these facilities become confining spaces where they share cramped quarters with peers who share similar narratives.
Psychosocial security is, together with adequate nutrition and physical health, one of the main components of child development and protection. The number of Children in Especially Difficult Circumstances (CEDC) is remarkably high in Nepal as is the amount of help needed.
There are more than 5000 children living and working on the streets of Nepal.
The need for policy-level intervention and Good Practices in mitigating the perils faced by CEDC population in Nepal is crucial for which adequate research and evidence based approach must be adopted.
