Many bears and sidelined investors are repeating the same mistake they did in March-April 2020: just because the world is going to sh*t it doesn't mean markets have to continue crashing.
1/ OK, so WTF happened yesterday?
Powell says he's dead serious about hiking and the market rallies +2.24%!
How does this reaction make sense in the context of "tighter monetary policy"?
Weren't higher rates bad for stonks?
1/ Quite an eventful day today.
First, it's interesting to see a -0.4% down move in $SPX accompanied by a lower $VIX.
Historically, it's not often that $VIX loses 2 pts on a half-percent sell-off in $SPX (chart below 👇)
It still sits >30, implying daily 2% moves in $SPX.
Russian business television gets an analyst on to discuss the cratering Russian stock market.
Analyst opens a bottle and offers a funeral toast: "Dear stock market, you were interesting. Rest in peace, dear comrade."
I thought it was clear by now that this war is not about NATO or Russia's security concerns.

It looks like the increased Russian activity around Chernobyl, including heavy tracked vehicles and helicopters, is kicking up a lot of the radioactive dust still on the ground.
Primarily a local issue.

The 30-year data goes back to 1973 and last week was the worst calendar week total return in at least 49-year history! The long-bond lost 9.35%!!
If this was a year, a 9.35% total return loss would be the 5-year worst year ever.
Impressive for five days of work.
None.
We’re already in the green from our last purchase, in less than 24 hours.
You know boomer, we have 44,106 oz of gold in our reserves.
Worth $79 million, down 0.37% from a year ago.
If we had sold it a year ago and bought #Bitcoin, it would now be valued at $204 million.
