@CapriCaribbean@JamaicaObserver Before we talk about spending more, we should talk about tracking where current spending goes & what it produces. The mechanisms for that don't exist and what we're getting is not very much.

the end
The @CapriCaribbean report being discussed by the JTA never said JA spends "enough" it said JA spends a relatively high share of its GDP & budget on education, that the spending is not producing commensurate outcomes, and we don't know where the $ goes @jamaicaobserver

Every child in Jamaica deserves a system that delivers on what it promises them. This is the belief that drove the production and launch of the report, #RoomForImprovement: The Gap Between Public Spending and Child Outcomes in Jamaica.
To our partners at UNICEF Jamaica (@UNICEFJamaica), to our panellists Dr. Steven Kerr (@MOEYJamaica), Dr. Diana Thorburn (@Diana_Thorburn), and André Miller, to our host and moderator Javaughn Keyes (@javaughn_keyes), and to everyone who joined us in the room or online – thank you for showing up #ForEveryChild!

📰Latest #CAPRICommentary: "Whose Job Is It to Fix the Spending Gap for Children?"
The honest answer: Jamaica’s gap between public spending and child outcomes is not the failure of one person or administration. It is a structural issue requiring structural reform.
In the @JamaicaGleaner, CAPRI’s Kimberly Stewart breaks down the three structural conditions driving the spending-to-outcomes gap for children, and the reforms needed to improve it.

Our oceans. Our livelihoods. Our future.🌊
This #InternationalDayforBiologicalDiversity 2026, the theme "Acting Locally for Global Impact" reminds us that global goals are reached through national choices.
For Jamaica, some of the most consequential choices we can make are about the sea. CAPRI's "#SeaOfOpportunity: Developing Jamaica's Blue Economy" report, funded by the European Union (@euinjamaica), charts a clear path forward:
🔹Prioritise marine protection aligned with our 30 by 30 commitment
🔹 Diversify tourism toward ecotourism and conservation-based marine offerings
🔹 Establish a regional Sustainable Finance Hub for blue and climate finance
🔹 Embed fisherfolk in policy and MPA decision-making

As a panelist in the roundtable discussion, "Identifying Areas of Convergence on Purposes of International Development Co-operation, Diana contributed to the conversation with a strong focus on locally led development and South-South cooperation- ensuring Caribbean perspectives are helping shape the global agenda, not just participating in it.
It was also a great opportunity to reconnect and exchange ideas with our colleagues at Southern Voice (@SVoice2030)!

🌟 Huge congratulations to our partners at @onthinktanks and @PolicyCenterNS for delivering another fantastic #OTTConference this year!
We were proud to see such strong participation from the Southern Voice network, with 16 member institutions joining the discussions, including: @fusades@CapriCaribbean@theokwelians@SAIIA_info@IEPeruanos@acedafrica@csea_afric@cips_id@EthosInnovacion@ipeaonline@NkafuPolicyInst@PolicyCenterNS@FARO_org. We were very well represented, alongside our very own Network Engagement Officer, Beatriz Pfeifer.
Southern Voice also contribut ed to the conference programme with our session “Unlocking Global Impact for Southern Think Tanks,” which created space for an important discussion between Global South think tanks, funders, and stakeholders on the barriers that continue to limit Southern engagement in global policymaking. This dialogue also illustrated why overcoming them matters now more than ever.
Thank you again to OTT and PCNS for creating such a rich space for exchange and collaboration. We look forward to continuing these conversations, and our engagement with such incredible partners! 🤝
