The real Gypsy Rose Lee visited the set and coached Wood on her striptease routines, while Wood was delighted that her own singing voice was used; a privilege denied her in West Side Story (1961).

Interestingly, Ann-Margret was the studio’s first choice for the role, but it is Natalie Wood's talent, charisma and star power that carries this scene.
