Otherwise, he was a slimy little Nazi propagandist with good manners and kid gloves, who knew how to flute his inhuman ideology to the masses with a friendly smile, looking less stupid than those who listened to him.

Although it must be said that he did make a rather stupid impression.

For the average nationalist rabble, that was perfectly sufficient. Their role models must not appear too educated or intelligent, lest they feel overwhelmed, which is a real balancing act at that level.
