Can we just give this lot an unoccupied Hebridean island where they can dress up in bowler hats and scarves, play that awful whistling shite, and shout "outrage!" to their hearts content without bothering the rest of the UK tax payer who has to fund the fall out of their bigotry?
Today is the day that any concept of a “New Ireland” died. The lies, spin and promises. It was always nonsense, and that had been laid bare.
I never want any discord. I want to build a brighter future for Northern Ireland - for all of us. I work to that every day. I believe every person in this place I serve sees that.
When others, including the First Minister and her party, have behaved with utter recklessness and disregard for stability and our institutions, I believe in responsibility.
I have always embraced those who are different from who I am, and endeavoured to show respect.
I have witnessed the tradition I come from treated with such utter contempt and hatred.
“Little room, Great Hatred” that is what I’ve seen. That is what we have all saw with our own eyes.
I come from the Orange tradition. I am deeply proud of the warmth, compassion, depth and richness of that tradition. All of our traditions come from particular aspects or “sects”. By its very nature, they are “of “something and not “of” something else. They are exclusionary by the very nature of it pertaining to the particular tradition, beliefs or views of some, but it is not exclusionary by experience or engagement. Every religious order or community is exclusionary by doctrine, but not by outreach. We all deserve respect. That respect and tolerance threatens no one.
It is hard to believe I have to explain the basics of this so many years after the principles of the Glorious Revolution and our human rights and civil rights frameworks, but here we are.
I have been deeply, deeply offended by the way my traditions and culture have been described, treated and expressed.
The behaviour, and jubilance tastelessly and appalling shown by some tonight only shines a light on their intolerance, hatred and ignorance.
I will never be goaded into punishing the people of Northern Ireland for the reckless of Sinn Fein.
But I am disgusted and furious of those who have played to their base and not for what is for everyone.
In this election you have a choice - choose those who want Northern Ireland to work, and those who do all they can to make it so.
Allow booze in seats only if purchased and drinker seated before kick off. After first whistle, any other boozing on the concourse or outside as now. ... Scrap the daft rules preventing drinking in hospitality (curtains closed etc) ... Sorted.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham is set to scrap the law that bans football fans from drinking in the stands
"I don’t see how it can be fair that some supporters of one sport can be treated differently"
Bravo! Perfectly sums up why, as a now very content cricket parent of an aforementioned teenage fast bowler, I couldn't resist digging my kit out and aiming for one last shot at glory when the 2s were short in Sat. LBW to one that both kept low and was missing leg 😉
Thanks 👌
@SalfordCityFC Annual reminder to #DRFC supporters that footballers are employees too and have very shorter careers. In real life, if you're offered 2x your wage for the same role then 8/10 times you'd take it, especially if it sets your family up for life. The fella owes us nowt. Good luck.
@alexdsmiff@WardyShorts It's not the format for me. I played t20, 16x8, 40, 45, 50 and 65 overs, all of which bring different nuances etc. It's lack of test cricket over the summer hols, needless damage to the blast, lack of country wide enfranchisement, and the fact that I'd have to support Leeds.
@TheCricketerMag And don't get me started that there's no test cricket in the summer holidays! Just so the #BCCI can hold the Hundred and attract Hugh and Henrietta Warrick-Avenue to the game where they can network extensively over pimms.
@TheCricketerMag Southampton over Headingley and Old Trafford 🤮
Bit like the FA booking the MK empty arena for an Eng game when St James's Pk or any of the Manchester and Liverpool stadiums are available to use.
Yorks & Lancs Largest participation area by miles and we don't get a sniff 🤬
@Porkchop_EXP Tell me you've never been in the away end on a piss wet through, freezing cold Saturday, when a last minute winner; own goal off the coccyx of their centre half hits the onion bag, without telling me you've ever been in the away end on a piss wet through freezing cold Sat...
Quite enjoyed the Supercharger's games we've been to over the past couple of years. Gave us the pportunity to watch cricket at the Oval and Trent Bridge for peanuts and great fun.
Won't be going again though, I absolutely refuse to support Leeds at cricket!
The Hundred kicks off today. I know not everyone likes it. In fact some actively hate it. I don’t love that it’s buggered up other bits of the cricket fabric but the comp itself is fun. There’s no need to be a total misery guts about all of it.
@owenjonesjourno He represents one of the poorest and most marginalised parts of the country. Left behind, desperate for meaningful change and deeply patriotic. He's also a superb constituency MP. I hope you might end up pleasantly surprised but then you'd have nothing to be outraged about.
@welshhenryviii@DPJHodges Or, as was the case with all the English opponents to this point. We won and they lost with good grace. ... Did you see the Egyptian reaction to their loss. I assume the rest of world hates them too?
@welshhenryviii@DPJHodges You really dont watch football much do you? Pretty sure the rest of the world, well those who's nations actually had a stake in the WC, would behave in exactly the samexway. French, Germans, Mexicans and Senegalese aren't exactly shrinking violets.
