If a beacon needs to be crewed to ensure it won't fall victim to Ontic Drift, inevitably the question to the nature of a required crew. Does it need to be a human? An adult? Would a child in suspended animation create a Shore against the Aether?

Questions like these will arise in people trying to understand the Aether. And a mind that's more curious than ethically concerned will inevitably find research, records, and finally reasons to no longer pursue such thoughts.
Beacon stations out in the Aether aren't fully automated for simple reasons. Once human attention is gone, Ontic Drift might take them with it. FSBA's whole business is keeping shores around Mars for everyone's safety.
