Congratulations to @hd_materialsNA and @ERAlberta_ on reaching this important milestone.
Alberta is on the cusp of being the first jurisdiction in North America to have a net-zero cement plant.
This is what progress looks like.

Tune in today at 1 p.m. (MT) for a special announcement on the carbon capture project at our Edmonton cement plant. #MaterialToBuildOurFuture

Producing cement is a carbon intensive business. But we have solutions.
It’s why we launched the Cement Roadmap to Net Zero, & it’s why we’re working w/ partners like HeidelbergCement.
Together we can make cement cleaner & more competitive. Great meeting w/ CEO Von Achten today
Here's something to watch over your Sunday morning coffee: we interviewed Prof @MarkJaccard in a wide-ranging discussion on the future of Alberta in a time of enormous global systemic change. Check it out & happy Sunday! #yyc#JustRecovery https://t.co/6avHipH3RF
With a 92.4% capture efficiency, the Petra Nova CCS Facility is a success to be celebrated, according to @CaptureCorwyn, our VP who helped to design & build the Boundary Dam 3 #BD3 CCS Facility.

@bataille_chris@bethhardy@Niallmacdowell@PSFennell For solvent based systems, they can operate from as low as 25% flue gas flows continuously. At these low loads, energy takes a bit of a hit as there will be minimum solvent flows to maintain packing wetting, co2 compressors don’t turn down that well and so need to recirc, etc.
@bataille_chris@bethhardy@Niallmacdowell@PSFennell If you design for 90% capture, you can get 95.7% capture at 90% flue gas flow, if you have the regeneration energy available. Chapter 10 of the public study goes over some of the options.
As backup for variable renewable, CCS plants amplify the emission reductions realized.
@bataille_chris@bethhardy@Niallmacdowell@PSFennell Figure 4, shows the "over-capture" at reduced loads graphically, and is based on table 7.3 of the second generation study public report which is on our website at: https://t.co/FVWEbqaL5V
The plant design is based 90% at full load, but can hit 97% capture at 75% flue gas flow.
Happy to share newly peer-reviewed results from our Feasibility Study to retrofit @SaskPower Shand Power Station w/ Carbon Capture & Storage (#CCS) - a featured spotlight in #GHG: Science & Technology Journal; Wiley Online Library➡️https://t.co/xA73SG0ivt

I am looking forward to representing the International CCS Knowledge Centre at a Japan Ministry of Environment conference on CCS and Hydrogen in Tokyo Feb. 19-20th.
The key to doing this cost effectively is having the coal fired power plants that can be life extended indefinitely with small capital injections. The #BD3 power plant life extension at the time of CCS conversion, extended the 45 year old plants life out to a target of 75 years.
@CER_REC And miss the opportunity to take advantage of re-using existing coal fired power plants to be early movers and take advantage of a low cost transition to bio energy by co-firing with coal and adding ccs. #beccs. You don’t get to zero with going negativity, just ask the #ipcc.
Looking forward to seeing how we can tackle CO2 emissions with @ccsknowledge and @ERAlberta_ . Read more about our joint CCS Feasibility Study, here: --> https://t.co/HRpF8GUN1H

Thrilled that this initiative was funded, and am happy to be a member of the advisory board. Quantifying and reducing the impact of solvent degradation is key to accelerating the deployment of #CCS
