https://t.co/Dftu2ZNlpV Attached is a presentation on the Canadian FSL teacher shortage and its solutions for my EM203 Spread the News Assignment. Please let me know if any of you have any thoughts!
@BarbLarochelle@TanyaSaumure@AdrianaLaGrange@LailaGoodridge@nateglubish Please let me know what you think best solutions would be for the FSL teacher shortage as a former teacher, I'd love to hear more! Should BEd programs go back to one year? Or should we be recruiting internationally trained teachers? In need of expert opinions for a uni project๐
@ESL_fairy So glad more people's attentions are on this. As a BEd student starting in September I'd love to hear a teacher's perspective on what the best solutions here going forward would be in your opinion: Back to 1 year BEd programs? More financial support and pathways for FSL teachers?
@jamiewestndp I'm so very glad to have an MPP's attention on the shortage. Not from Sudbury but former Ontario resident studying to be an FSL teacher, what do you think the best solutions are? Reducing BEd programs to 1 year? More financial supports? I'd love to hear more.
3 simple groups of solutions to the FSL teacher shortage. You could argue they all cost money, but every $ spent on education is less spend on healthcare, the justice system, and on so many other costs. Also, reducing BEd program lengths from 2 years to 1 should save money.
My identified problem for my EM203 course with @RobinPersadWL will be the shortage of FSL (French Second Language) teachers across Canada outside Quebec in core, extended and immersion classrooms and even further exacerbated in communities already facing teacher shortages.
An interesting graph from the Ontario College of Teachers (https://t.co/JJFTIfoXeb) relating to the French teacher shortage from 2007โฆ Although shortages have decreased the issue is still here almost 20 years later! Good news for us aspiring French teachers, bad news for Ontario
This website (https://t.co/tBjkNOtsxx) from the Canadian Association for Second Language Teachers contains some very surprising statistics about the mythical, often debated teacher shortage and how it's present in French classrooms specifically. Highly recommend a read.
This week, I read @EM203AbigailBil concept map on education, an issue relating to this topic would be the teacher shortage, especially in remote or Indigenous communities or to supply teach for certain subjects like French, and the diverse causes behind such shortages.
Itโs been a journey from analyzing how education is changing to understanding my own cognitive load. From Lesson 1 to Lesson 3's multi-tasking experiment, I'm realizing effective learning requires more focus than I thought. #EM203Robin
@EM203JHing I get where youโre coming from. Even though it brings great benefits, as technology gets more entwined with our lives it gets harder and harder to create more accounts and keep track of them, always more usernames and passwords to keep both secure and be able to access.
@EM203nhill 100%. Iโm glad Laurier has a course like this. Given how big of a role the digital space makes up in our lives Iโm surprised there arenโt many other multidisciplinary courses like this one dedicated to the ways we use and learn from social media.
So far, I have enjoyed how this course explores who we are as learners in the digital age and how we learn using digital tools. As a university student, it has made me reflect on how identity, learning processes, and multimedia environments shape learning and society. #EM203Robin
@EM203vmanrique Absolutely. I feel that learning has always been a largely social activity in many contexts, so itโs only natural that when social activity shifts to the digital space so too does that social style of learning.
