Early detection of prostate cancer isn’t just important, it’s life-saving. 💙
The earlier we catch it, the more options we have, and the better the outcomes. Let’s keep the conversation going and encourage our loved ones to take proactive steps for their health.

We are so proud to introduce Jhaleisjha DeSilva as the inaugural recipient of the Marie V. Gibbons Biomedical Science Training Scholarship. 💙
In her own words, Dr. Weldon’s support along with the encouragement of so many others has pushed her to strive for excellence, and she is committed to working hard and bringing everything she learns back home to Bermuda.
That is exactly the kind of support this scholarship was created to provide.
Congratulations, Jhaleisjha. We are behind you every step of the way. 🧬

This one is deeply personal for us.
CariGenetics was built from a desire to make science more meaningful for our people, more accessible, and more capable of changing lives. But for our founder Dr Carika Weldon, this work has never just been professional. It is emotional and it is rooted in family.
When her grandmother, Marie V. Gibbons, was in her final days fighting cancer, a family member turned to Carika and asked her a question that has stayed with her ever since. "Aren't you a cancer researcher? Shouldn't you know what to do?" Standing in that hospital room with all her years of science behind her, she felt heartbroken and helpless. That moment never left her. It shaped the woman she became, the scientist she is, and the mission behind CariGenetics.
We are proud to share that our clinical lab at Bermuda College has been officially named the Marie V. Gibbons Lab today on what would have been her 81st birthday. In that same lab, we have helped determine cancer genetic risk for men in Bermuda and Saint Lucia and supported cancer patient care across the Caribbean.
We have also announced the Marie V. Gibbons Scholarship to support a Bermudian in becoming a fully certified lab technologist in the UK, with Jhaleisjha DeSilva named as our inaugural recipient.
We are also now offering more affordable routine blood work testing for those who are uninsured or underinsured, like a $50 PSA test, and working in partnership with Angelique Pitcher who has launched Gentle Hands, a new concierge phlebotomy service to make healthcare more accessible for all.
This is what it means to turn grief into action and love into legacy. 💙

Have you ever taken medication and wondered why it hit you so hard, or why it barely seemed to do anything at all? The answer might be in your DNA.
Your body processes medication the same way it processes food, through enzymes. Those enzymes break medication down so it can either be converted into its useful form or cleared from your body.
Pharmacogenetics is the study of how your DNA influences the way those enzymes work, which means it can explain why the same pill at the same dose feels completely different from one person to the next. It is not about doing something wrong. It is simply biology.
And once you understand what works best for your body, medication decisions stop being guesswork and start being personal.
CariGenetics is bringing that knowledge to Barbados through our partnership with Bayview Labs, partnered by Supernova Lab.
We have 30 free tests and the deadline to sign up is fast approaching on 30 April 2026.

We are so proud to announce that CariGenetics serves as the official Caribbean distributor for @NEBiolabs (NEB).
CariGenetics and NEB are also thrilled to announce the Caribbean Student Research Competition, and we genuinely could not be more excited about putting resources directly into the hands of Caribbean students doing meaningful science.
This competition is open to students across English, Spanish, or French Caribbean, and it is a call for abstracts from students who are using NEB tools in their research. This could be used for cloning, synthetic biology, protein work, RNA studies, or sequencing — if you are doing the work, we want to hear from you.
Three winners will each receive a research workflow for either RNA qPCR, synthetic biology or ONT sequencing workflow valued between $500 and $1,000 USD.
One grand prize winner will also win a fully funded trip to Bermuda to conduct the ONT sequencing experiment with the CariGenetics team.
This is a real opportunity to bring your research to life and to be seen on a regional stage.
Submissions by 30 May 2026. More info at https://t.co/g53fuFCVGB 💙

Most people take their medication and trust that it is working. But research shows that 9 out of 10 people have changes in their DNA that affect how they respond to commonly prescribed drugs, and most people have no idea.
Pharmacogenetics is the study of how your genes determine the way your body processes medication. CariGenetics has already seen trends across the Caribbean where certain medications simply do not work or are unsafe for the majority of people tested, and that data has opened up real policy conversations about public health.
Now we are bringing free pharmacogenetic testing to Barbados through our Meds4You programme, in partnership with Bayview Laboratory (Bayview Hospital & Urgent Care), powered by Supernova Lab. 30 spots are available at no cost, with full support throughout the programme.
Applications close 24 April 2026.

We asked leading scientists at BP30 to finish this sentence:
“The future of genomics is…”
The answers were diverse, bold, and beautifully different from one another. That is the spirit of the Bermuda Principles.
The future of genomics is not one thing. It is all of us. 🧬
Happy International Women’s Day! 💙
From the lab to the boardroom, CariGenetics is powered by women who show up, push boundaries, and drive real change in science and healthcare every single day. We are proud of every one of them.
