Thousands of people have now died in Congo’s Ebola outbreak, with children under five being hit especially hard. Treatment centers are struggling to find enough health workers to care for the sick.

There is also reason for hope as countries commit resources to help.

Human suffering should move us toward one another, not away from one another. A virus does not recognize borders. Neither should our compassion.

May we continue to respond with urgency, generosity, and a commitment to protecting every human life.

Sixty-three years ago today, Daddy stood before hundreds of thousands of people at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, calling this nation toward justice, equality, and the fulfillment of its promises.

To share portions of those words alongside him across generations is deeply meaningful to me.

The speech still resonates because the dream was never meant to be admired from a distance. It requires our participation. May we continue the work of making justice, dignity, opportunity, and genuine equality a lived reality for all.

52 years ago today, my paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alberta Williams King, from whom I get my middle name, Albertine, was shot and killed while playing “The Lord’s Prayer” at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Her life was rooted in faith, music, family, and service. She helped shape my father’s spiritual foundation and poured love, strength, and dignity into our family.

To remember her is to remember that violence does not have the final word. Love, faith, and legacy still speak.

I honor her today with deep gratitude. The music and the memories still live on.
