One thing you have to learn with kids is transitions. Kids don’t do well with abrupt changes.

Before they leave the playground tell them you will be leaving in five minutes.

Before you go to a social occasion, tell them what you expect in terms of their behavior.

When putting them to bed, ease them into bedtime, establish a routine: brushing teeth, reading, pajamas.

Before the school day, tell them what they will need to bring.

Then when the time comes they will be primed.
